ussian jets 'hunting' IS oil tanker trucks: defence ministry

AFP

Moscow (AFP) - Russia on Wednesday said its planes will attack any tanker trucks travelling through territory belonging to the Islamic State group in Syria, as Moscow looks to ratchet up pressure on the jihadists.

"Today a decision was taken according to which Russian warplanes are now flying on a so-called 'free hunt' against tanker trucks carrying oil products belonging to terrorists in areas controlled by IS," senior Russian military official Andrei Kartapolov was quoted as saying by Russian news agencies.

Kartapolov said that Russian aviation had already destroyed some 500 fuel trucks over the past "few days" transporting oil from Syria to refineries in Iraq.

"This has considerably lowered the ability of the fighters to illegally export energy products and their income from contraband oil," he said.

Revenues from oil smuggling are a key part of IS financing.

Asked why the U.S. had waited so long to hit fuel trucks, which are highly vulnerable and easily targeted by air, Davis said the U.S.-led coalition has been mindful of civilian casualties and sought to limit damage to Syria’s oil resources to preserve them for future generations.

“We’re balancing that with the fact that this revenue is presenting a clear and present threat to Syrians today, in that it’s being converted into funds which are being used for military equipment, which is being used to kill innocent civilians,” Davis said.

Army Col. Steve Warren, a U.S. military spokesman in Baghdad, said last week that the U.S. has learned over time that the militants were quickly replacing or repairing damage to oil distribution centers and other infrastructure. In many cases, he said, within days of an airstrike the targeted piece of oil infrastructure was up and running again.

“We don’t want to completely and utterly destroy these facilities to where they’re irreparable,” Warren said. “So what we’ve done is we’ve used very precise targeting, a very detailed analysis to strike certain parts of these facilities that will cause them to shut down for an extended period of time.”

As Coulter opined, “That event in Paris elected Trump president.”

Now that we are cutting off Jihadi oil production, it would be a prudent strategy to build the Keystone pipeline. But our Pariah in Chief will have nothing to do with what is prudent for America,

Pussy. The Germans used to rush to repair rail lines and airfields too. So what? And meanwhile the Sturmoviks are swarming on a free hunt. I’m rootin’ for Putin.

"We don't want to completely and utterly destroy these facilities to where they're irreparable," Warren said.

There is something really, really wrong with that statement. Either the spokesman is lying, or he is a fool. Maybe both.

Trump has noted that it would take an efficient company like Exxon just a couple of months to get a destroyed oil field back into production. I believe Trump. So irreparable? Nope.

Exactly. And two random thoughts. You are an armed rabble. Imagine you personally were in that. And an oil facility gets bombed. You are tasked with repairing it “quickly” as Warren says.
You need cranes, valves, parts I cant even imagine, skilled technicians, etc. Supposedly you are under threat of American air attack at any moment.

So basically one thought, what banks and nation states are assisting?

Second. Warren said damaged beyond repair? Like the whole infrastructure of Kuwait? Like Hiroshima? Like Cologne? Like Munich? You damage it all you can. Anything built, can be rebuilt if there is sufficient reason underground to justify it.

I know thinking is bad, ill just listen to Obamas Army explain why bombing oil is bad.

This is the most telling statement. We have not made a total effort to destroy these facilities. These are rationalizations.

The Russians have no such compunction.

Trump has said nothing original and a lot of what he has said is not conservative at all.

Going after the oil has been a topic for over a year now.

The knock is his butt-licking fans who pretend he was the first or only one talking about stuff. None of it was ever true. He mimics conservative talking points (badly) and people act as if he actually means it.

No reason to believe he does.

Oh please...we didn’t bomb their oil infrastructure because our CIA was using it to fund them.

Our CIA was (is?!) funding ISIS. Weapons “stolen” from Iraq. $500 Million for “training” 9 anti-Assad “rebels.”

Come on!
