I am shocked to see how many pedestrians are not watching where they are going, but are looking down and playing with their phones.
I’ve seen people crossing the street playing with their phones. They would never know what hit them if a car was coming.
I’ve seen people walking down the sidewalk, playing with the phone, heading right for you, and then you have to be the one to get out of their way to avoid bumping into them, rather than them having any common courtesy to watch where they are going.
I drive the SOCAL freeways a lot. Everyday there are collisions. How many are caused by some idiot texting?
It’s sad. Few few people nowadays can seem to just sit quietly and reflect, without having a little glowing screen to entertain them.
I can sit on the porch for hours and just “be”. My daughter can, as well. My ex-wife...forget it...always needed a distraction.
Not much more depressing than having a big family get-together, and 70% of the people are looking at their phones while at the table, and very little actual conversation is happening.
I will not sit at a table with someone using their phone. It is downright rude. If it happens, and my wife knows it, I will get up and leave.
There is hope. I don’t do any of that social media crap - no Facebook page and I don’t tweet, twit, twerk, whatever. Kid brings her phone to the table and it gets promptly removed from her hands.
Are there more of me in this regard out there?
Hate to break it to you but online forums like Free Republic are also social media.
If you dare, check out the opinion pages of the Dallas Morning News (dallasnews.com). For the past few days, there's been a kerfluffel of activity generated by a UNT journalism professor.
She was stopped by police for walking in the middle of a street in a residential area. It was two white cops, so it had to be because she was "walking while black."
You can't make this $hit up.
minus the narcissism
Are there more of me in this regard out there?
I’m proud to be one. And I donât tweet, twit, twerk, whatever, either. I wouldn’t know how to do those things.
Sometimes a phone on TV rings and I think it’s mine, though. LOL
And I’ve seen a family of 5 (Dad, Mom, and 3 kids sitting in restaurant, and rather than interacting or talking with one another, they are all looking at their stupid phones texting or playing games rather than acting like a family. It would have been funny if it wasn’t so depressing to witness.
Heard that last night on my local talk guy. Of course, the dash cam tells a much different story.
We just got home from the beach. We had a mini storm while we were there. Loved the crashing of the waves and the howling winds. We were in an end condo. The space between our building and the next was like a wind tunnel. Sometimes the waves would come to shore like ballerinas tip toeing to shore and other times they were like ferocious lions crashing to shore. Very interesting. We had a wrap around balcony and we could not go on the end part because the wind was so strong. We loved watching the beach action.
I have been on Facebook for a few years and love it. It is a way to keep up with relatives and friends. One of my nieces husband was in a serious motorcycle wreck in another state and my niece keeps everyone updated on his progress. He was in another state when he had the wreck back in August and he is in a different hospital now. I also get conservative news from a number if sites. Really enjoy it. Facebook is what a person makes it.
A muggers paradise. The first thing you learn in any course on self defense is situational awareness. Even those who think they pay attention to their surroundings are often surprised by how wrong they are. These people who keep their nose in their cell phones are just very easy pickings for the bad guys. And girls, those bad guys are often looking to take more from you than your money.
I keep up with a few people who started 1st grade with me, way back in the good ole days-—1950/51. I also have a few friends from my State days. I enjoy it especially since my daughter died in 2094, my brother, husband and bill in 2006 and my mom in 2007. And, I tell people I love them a lot more often than before the deaths. We are not promised tomorrow. God bless.
No one on FR posts pictures of their boobs or butts.
If they do, they quickly get pulled.
