Comcast hacked my browser?
meshuge mikey ^ | October 9, 2015 | Meshuge Mikey

when trying to access Free Republic Frun Section on My Chrome browser....it defaults to a Comcast Activation Page.

Id be very careful about using this link f youre a COMCAST CUSTOMER..

https://activate.comcast.com/RoutingEngine/accountlookup.do

Yes Id be very careful about using this link f youre a COMCAST CUSTOMER..as Id hate to see anyone stuck in this partiular loop de loop

I changed service today..got a new modem...got activated...and all was seemingly well until I tried to log on the Free Republic....with my CHROME Browser.

My safari browser hasnt been hijacked oddly enough.

the people at comcast. have NO IDEA why this happened.

I can reach the Pings Page...with no problem.

Id rather us CHROME as I can use the font I want for this forum. but if I cant navigate between PINGs and the main FORUM page..It makes using chrome pretty problematic.

If anyone here has any ideas how to solve this minor but very irritating dilemma Id love to here them.

Looks like it may be causing typos, as well.

You might try Seamonkey or Firefox.

I don’t think you are truly activated, yet:

I killed the old bookmark.....just because I thought that might work...and no moe COMCAST activation page.

Thanks

having been on the phone with those Tech Wizzes at Comcas..who are likely the same people as the :customer service people.. for two hours has taken a toll.

Firefox did that to me many times when refusing to allow updates and changed the configuration to allow. in addition, they also had the nerve to delete bookmarks about Google and other google services.

“...Free Republic Frun Section...”

What’s “Frun”?

Both browsers now can log in here.

I deleted my Original Free Republic Bookmark...and that seems to have cured the problem that the Chrome Browser “was :having”

The Safari Browser was never “sent” to the comcast activation page.

Isn’t the Comcast motto “We aren’t as bad as Time Warner, but we are trying”?

the Business practices are a bit bizarre to say the least

they added twenty bucks to my monthly bill..last month

they SAID that my Introductory offer had run out

now Ive been USING COMCAST for several years now....and dont hink I was using an “introductory rate” for lo those may moons.

I asked for a reduction in rates.....got a new plan..thus requiring a different modem... and the rest is history.

You can turn javascript off which prevents web pages from controlling the current page. Try it and see what happens.

Probably a comcast tech who doesn’t like Panther Wizz.

It’s called a walled garden page. Restart your wireless router and open close your browser. Comcast didn’t hack anything the activation page can get stuck if you don’t restart your modem after activation.

It’s a Comcast gateway security feature. You may have to tell tech support your connection should be always ‘on’ without the gateway security.

It might be possible to have your router automatically log-on to the gateway too.
