Show Mitch McConnell the Door

Christian Whiton September 28.

Last week, House Speaker John Boehner decided to retire rather than chance being ousted by his own colleagues. Despite this lucky break, the congressional GOP has little chance of winning back disenchanted Republican voters unless it also shows Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell the door. Continued Republican control of the Senate is on the line. A brand-new poll reveals that 72 percent of Republican primary voters are dissatisfied with McConnell and Boehner. Only 2 percent of those polled were “very satisfied” with the party’s two congressional leaders, who the majority believe have accomplished essentially nothing. The situation is actually worse than the poll would indicate: Republican rank-and-file members across the country aren’t just disappointed, they’re incensed. This malaise will only deepen if — as is likely — congressional Republicans lose the debate with Obama over government funding for Planned Parenthood.

The fight should have been an easy one to win. While slightly more Americans typically self-identify as “pro-choice” than as “pro-life,” Planned Parenthood’s recently revealed conduct is beyond the pale for most. Some 64 percent of Americans favor banning abortion after the first trimester of pregnancy, and 80 percent support a ban after the second trimester. Allegedly, not only have Planned Parenthood clinics performed illegal late-term abortions, but they have been paid for fetus parts. Simply insisting that government funds should not be given to an organization engaged in this activity was a ready-made issue for Republicans to win with broad support.

Yet McConnell and Boehner lost the battle before it even began. By entering the argument over whether or not to “shut down the government,” they were accepting a misleading narrative that favors their opponents. Republican leaders should have emphasized that Congress was inevitably going to fund the 99.9 percent...

No, no, no. We had plenty here demand lesser evil. CLEARLY Mitch must stay or they will have another screaming fit and to hell with America!

Yes. That was sarcasm because some don’t seem to recognize over the top insanity after electing it so often.

“72 percent of Republican primary voters are dissatisfied with McConnell and Boehner”

Back in 2008 and 2012 in some states (including mine) the Grand Old Party had already chosen its loser stiffs—McCain and Romney—even before the primary vote.

So what’s the quid pro quo being proposed here? They get rid of Yertle the Frightened Turtle and we go back to giving them money and votes, like for Yeb the Joyful Tortois?
And then we shut up for two, four and six year stretches, like before, and listen to our betters so they won’t call us names like Hobbits, whackos, garbage, etc.?
Screw that.
And screw National Review. And WS, the WSJ, and Fox. And the RNC ... and on-and-on. The problem here is systemic.

That will never happen. The Republicans in Kentucky will not stand still for it. Norm Lenhart and others on this form tried to warn Kentucky Republicans what McConnell would do once elected. And were thoroughly slandered and vilified for their efforts.

I like to think of it as we ‘exposed the liberals within”. Buy yea, we were called everything but white men and still are daily.

Now the meme is that we should shut up and not remind anyone we were right because that would be ‘arrogant’.

I’m OK with that label too actually. We were RIGHT.

Now that Pope Francis has left and returned to his Church in Rome, we can get back to what Jesus preached:
Matthew 5:17

“Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.”

Time to get down to it, in as Christ-like a way as possible.
We trusted politicians to do their jobs, but as they leave they say things like, “My first job as speaker is to protect the institution,”.
That’s not good enough. It’s not even close. A church institution is just a building.

How’s that?

These consequences theyface, they’ve brought upon themselves. They own their circumstances, completely.

I could see Mitch and a couple other progressive Republicans going over to the Democrats and changing control of the body. It has happened in lots of state houses whenever control is slim. The Dems always pick off a couple weak-kneed losers. In the Senate, they could get maybe 10 Republicans. McConnell, Thad, Cornyn, the lady from NH, Kirk, Blunt, Corker, Linda, McQueeg, and a few others. They might start a new party, the “Non-Whacko Party”, with Mitch and Harry the joint leaders. Whatever it takes to keep crony capitalism in charge of the nation’s policies.

Ditch the Mitch! I totally agree.

We successfully t-boned Eric Cantor, Harry Reid and now Boehner.

And if they want to stick us with that McCarthy guy, we'll t-bone him, too.

He won’t be able to redeem himself so he needs to go. Fresh leadership is what we need.

Well said, but unfortunately, some will use his lack of interest as approval. Our legislators, for instance, can pat themselves on the back, cry for the cameras, and believe they are doing the right thing.

‘Rats manage to find a way, any way to get what they want - pass an unpopular healthcare bill by such tactics as “reconsideration”, impose a dangerous nuclear agreement with Iran by calling it a “deal” so it doesn’t have to go through the usual treaty process, go to the “nuclear option” and abandon the usual filibuster practices to win endorsement of favored judges - but Republicans in the Senate under McConnell’s leadership are so stupid that they let themselves get turned sideways and locked into an agreement which requires them to get a two-thirds vote to defeat the Iran deal, not to approve it - McConnell has to go......
