The heartening news that John Boehner is not only out of the Speaker’s Chair but out of Congress as well has just broken.
Here are a few points to keep in mind;
When Boehner removed North Carolina conservative Congressman Mark Meadows as Chair of the Government Operations Subcommittee of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, he set in motion a chain of events that has brought us to today’s decision.
Having Jason Chaffetz of Utah deliver the news was supposed to somehow protect Boehner from the anticipated blow back, but it didn’t.
Under extreme pressure he never saw coming, Boehner HAD to restore Meadows to his former position and he probably thought that would end the matter. It didn’t. It only stoked the fire of rebellion against him.
Meadows demanded a resolution to vacate the Speaker’s Chair in July. In an incredible display of just how out of touch Boehner and his followers are they decided to hold the vote just before going on August recess. The idea was to beat Meadows and teach him a lesson he would have to stew about for six weeks. That vote was called off when Boehner found out he had only 37% support and would lose it.
It was Boehner who stewed for six weeks. Boehner must have floated the idea that he would survive with Democrat votes. That didn’t go over so well with Congressional Democrats who would certainly be primaried – a la Eric Cantor – out of their seat.
With the 37% of Republicans who supported Boehner watching what was happening it is likely a number of them switched sides thinking the king could ACTUALLY be killed.

I remember when Allie Sherman was coach of the NY GI ants. The fans used to sing during the game: Good bye Allie, Good bye Allie, Good bye Allie, we hate to see you go, followed by cheers. Substitute Johnny for Allie today in the House.
The time to celebrate is after the new speaker is elected. We could get yet another spineless, establishment, GOP hack and we’re no better off than before. Man, I wish Allen West, or someone of his ilk, were around.
Now he can play golf with the Klown!
