New Orleans latest city to try to bury its Confederate past
examiner ^ | September 21, 2015 | Howard Portnoy

he inscription on a monument in New Orleans dedicated to the “honor of Americans on both sides of the conflict who died in the Battle of Liberty Place” ends with the advice “A conflict of the past that should teach lessons for the future.”

That lesson is lost on left-leaning members of the City Council of New Orleans, which, like so many southern cities, is seeking to cleanse itself of reminders of past unrest, during — or in the case of this memorial, shown above — after the Civil War.

As The Advocate reports, an anonymous donor has offered to pony up $125,000 to help rid the Crescent City of these odious reminders.

The article notes that the question of whether to remove the four monuments — which include a statue of Robert E. Lee, a tribute to Jefferson Davis, a statue of Civil War general P.G.T. Beauregard, and the above-mentioned memorial — has been a point of heated debate:

Looks like American needs to purge our entire history of slavery and the Civil War. See, if we erase all proof of our history then we can pretend that it was always PC right from the start.

Hmmm. I wonder why Germany retains its Holocaust memorials, museums, and former concentration camps dedicated to never forget the Holocaust and its millions of victims. Could it be so they don’t repeat the same mistake again? But the Libs would rather redraft history than admit we, as a people, have made mistakes in the past. Seems a little stupid to me.

It is out of fear that vast portions of America are fed up that the push is on to eliminate any reminders of resistance to the Federal Government.

The claims of racism do not withstand serious historical scrutiny.

The eradication of history is also the eradication of any record of progress, and is something Islamists do to remove any reference to anything but what they decree. Such ignorance breeds servitude.

Yep. The calendar will have to be redone too.

The liberals will decree that what we now call the year 2004 will be year one. They will pick 2004 as year 1 because 2004 was the year homosexual marriage started in Massachusetts.

Or, alternately, the year 1 could be 2008, as that was the year that Dear Leader Obama was elected president.

There was no history until the recent year liberal benchmarks occurred.

They weren’t Confederate for very long, the Union occupied New Orleans in April 1862.

Well, if we erase our history of slavery, the reparations argument goes up in smoke.

I can’t wait for New Orleans to order those restored slaves’ quarters (which are featured in guided city tours) bulldozed. Maybe there will be “anonymous donors” for that, too.

Yep. What is this “slavery” they speak of? Never heard of it.

Don’t tell them that. It would embarrass them.

Funny. In Lee Circle, the statue of Robert E. Lee points to the old YMCA building. It is Lee's warning - "Yankees May Come Again!"

Hit the Circle Bar if you're there. Small place, good live music.

No no, that is not it. Libs LOVE bringing up how horrible America is. They hate America and anything about it.

They simply do not want to HONOR anyone with whom they disagree.

Such as the Reagan Airport renaming attempt.

They do not want monuments for those whom they see as scum, understandably. But their view is childish and overwrought.

Now, they would LOOOOVE to have slavery monuments, for the put-upon people of the right persuasion, because that points out how bad America is.

When will it stop?

At West Point, there were two barracks built in 1962...named Sherman Barracks and Lee Barracks.

Seems 100 years after the war, there was a spirit of conciliation....

...no more, though.
