[decline to pay me 50% more than private sector] == [you want to kill me]
I bet the governor does not control local district teachers’ salaries. He does not in Texas. It is up to the school board what they pay.
This is the same mentality as that teacher who told Christie that she “deserves” $90,000 per year to be a middle school teacher because she has a Master’s Degree in Education. Its self-importance and arrogance that is not remotely grounded in reality. Ask her what she and the school deserve and her only answer will be “more” and you are a “goon” if you don’t give it to her. Correction, you are a goon if you don’t force the taxpayer to give it to her.
Sounds like she just didn’t like her job. I wonder if she was a low performer and was on a progress and improvement plan? Maybe she had an attendance problem?
Well, bye.
its a good thing she quit
Buh bye.
Liars lie and Liberals lie more.
Wow....another slimy, lying liberal dirtbag. No different than the lying black citizens about police brutality or the lying homosexuals about harassment or the lying women about rape.
Radical liberals are the lowest form of human debris.
In the minds of the liberals ‘underfunded’ simply means they are not getting as much as they want. Need or annual increases have nothing to do with it.
Stupidity is hard to overcome. Students are better off without this individual.
Who ever said liberals had to tell the truth???
Just shows to go (a little Dorkbama the Muslim supporter language there) that an “eddikashun” degree is worth just about as much as a used Yugo.
Teacher, my *ss.
1 - abolish government schools
It sounds to me more like this woman couldn’t hack it in elementary or secondary ed (not sure which one she was working in). I had a journalism teacher like that. She had come from the university setting and lasted exactly one year at my high school, which was one of the best in the state.
As for raises...cry me a river. Most of us haven’t been getting fat juicy salary increases in this age of Obamanomics. Also, teaching is not a profession one typically goes into for the money. Most of the teachers I’ve known (including family members) have been paid a fair wage, often with very generous benefits. But the ones that make it are the ones who have the talent and the passion to teach, not the ones looking for the biggest paycheck.
Sounds like she made this move so she will have better opportunities in the private sector (for pay and benefits, job satisfaction, etc.).
I hope she reports back to let us know how well that is working out for her.
A couple of facts that aren’t in this article.
First, the GOP and Snyder passed legislation that mandated all public Ed employees would have to either pay for their Health Insurance above a hard cap set by the State or 20% of the monthly premium. The choice was left up to the School Boards. However, in this legislation it also states that Schools are not allowed to increase Wages to compensate for the added costs.
Second, In December of 2012 the State also changed its retirement system funding. Requiring anyone that wanted to remain in basic plan 3% of their annual gross and pay 4% into the retiree health care fund.
I may have the two numbers mixed up but the total to remain in Basic is 7%.
I know for a fact that for someone making 45-50k a year the increase in cost is close to 700 dollars a month, since 2012.
Not saying it is right or wrong but those are the facts. So it is very possible even with the union negotiated wage increases this persons take home has dropped considerably.
I hope this story follows her in her next pursuit of gainful employment. What a horse's a$$.
