HuffPo Writer: Pretty Much Everything is Racist

Huffington Post contributor John Metta published an article this past week in order to tell white people that pretty much everything in our culture is racist. According to Metta, this was originally "a "sermon" that I gave as a "congregational reflection" to an all White audience at the Bethel Congregational United Church of Christ."

The piece, "I, Racist," lists a large number of things that sometimes don't even appear related to one another which are "racist," to the point where it seems that nearly everything that exists in American culture is problematic.

Here are just a few things that Metta says are racist in his article, which has gained over 100,000 likes on Facebook:

• The racial makeup of Buffalo, New York's school system is racist.

• Moving "from an increasingly Black neighborhood to live in a White suburb might itself be a aspect of racism."

• Not talking about racism is racist.

• "People in The North are racist," as well as people in the South.

• "Racism is our acceptance of an all white Lord of the Rings cast."

• Racism is "Benedict Cumberbatch playing Khan in Star Trek."

• Calling black people racist is racist. Metta adds, "Does any intelligent person actually believe a systematically oppressed demographic has the ability to oppress those in power?"

• Protecting "White feelings" is racist. Metta notes, "Millions of Black lives are valued less than a single White person's hurt feelings."

• Saying you yourself are not racist is protecting a racist system of oppression.

• Reporting that a white person shooting people is "mentally ill" is racist.

• Reporting that black people who murder people are "killers" is racist.

• Calling a white person a "hippie" for smoking pot is racist.

• The TV show "Dexter" might be racist. Metta explains, "In fact, we like White serial killers so much, we make mini-series about them."

Metta concludes his examples of racism by writing, "And White people, every single one of you, are complicit in this racism because you benefit directly from it."

Racism is as American as cherry pie, And that goes for blacks, Hispanics and Orientals. Just as much as for whites.

You cannot have it both ways. If you want to define "racism," as something to be avoided; you obviously cannot also define it as something natural, or you give away your argument. Only lunatics & hate driven crackpots seek to war on nature.

Conservatives need to start resisting--not respecting--efforts to paint them into an insane corner. There is not, and never has been, anything that makes it wrong for people to prefer their own culture, kin and ancestry.

A. The cast wasn't all white. Lots of the orcs were played by Maoris or Samoans. Which I guess was racist.

B. LOTR was written by an Englishmen. Pretty much all the characters were "white." To the extent fictional men, dwarves and elves fit into such an irrelevant category.

For an analogy, we recently watched Warriors of the Rainbow, a movie about the rebellion of Taiwanese aborigines against Japanese colonial rule.

While watching it, I commented to the wife how racist it was that all the characters were played by Taiwanese aborigines, Chinese or Japanese people.

Not a single white or black person was in the cast. How racist!

The definition of racism has nothing to do with oppression. Racist in large enough groups can oppress. Racists in smaller groups just hate - it's still racism.
