The Office of Personnel Management is under fire again today after it was revealed hackers, allegedly Chinese, stole 21 million social security numbers during a massive data breach discovered last month (which officials originally said only impacted 4 million people). The social security numbers belong to Americans who have, or who currently are, working for the federal government.
This new information comes on the heels of news hackers were able to obtain extremely sensitive information, including classified background check information that can be used for blackmail, belonging to tens of millions of government employees. More bad news:
Heres the kicker: despite todays jaw-dropping news, the attackers were in our networks so long that it may still be a while before we figure out everything they stole. Most news coverage has centered on federal employees. But thats an incomplete picture because its now clear many victims never worked for the federal government. When applying for a security clearance with the SF-86, applicants list their family members, neighbors, co-workers, foreign contacts, and even college roommates....

Obviously, the Social Security system has been compromised, and the only way to fix it is with National IDs.
Blame it on someone else, the Chinese in this instance. Typical of this regime.
21 million is what they want us to believe. You can be sure it is way more than that. But hey it couldn’t happen to a better bunch. Does anybody really care if a bunch of government parasites have their info stolen?
They deserve it.
You mean like almost everyone who has served in the military in this century? I had no idea they were all parasites. You do realize that those make up a large percentage of the people who had security clearances done, don’t you?
The commie lib Obama regime is doing a wonderful job of looking out for the American people aren’t they? Slick Willie’s wife will be “the final nail” in the coffin of America.
Worst administration ever.
Led by the worst president ever.
Easier to just nullify the union. Its employees are compromissed and corrupt.
SS #’s are clearly not up to the needs of a computerized age.
Maybe somebody needs to steal YOUR private info!!!
(do I really need the '/s' tag?)
“fix it is with National IDs.”
Line up, citizen, for your very own computer chip in your hand (or forehead, if you prefer) and retina scan!
Interesting that these hacks were supposed to have occurred months ago and are now supposed to be under control - college-sophomore nephew just started summer job for the Feds and got his security clearance a month or so ago - today learned his credit card was hacked with an attempted charge of thousands of dollars - fortunately his mother was smart enough to limit his credit line to two thousand dollars when she set the account up, so the company stopped payment and notified them about the breach before it took off - of course he might have been hacked through some other source like his college applications last year, but it sure sounds as though there are active vulnerabilities in government agencies virtually up to today......
I know it’s cliche, but can you IMAGINE the media if this had happened on Bush’s watch?
Crying, shouting, caterwauling federal employee “victims” pouring out their hearts on every news show, pundits droning on about how incompetent the President is. A full-bore crapstorm that would last for months.
No problem, there are a few more to be had...
As a former military and Special Investigator with the OPM, I have to assume that my SSAN and other data was hacked. So, what do I do??
Bad dude on the anonymous internet, ain't cha, boy?
Say it to my face.
1998er. Old vermin.
...and it was done on former pres Obama’s watch.....
I care, being a government parasite myself. I retired from a government job and find this more than a little concerning. Of course they ask for your damn ssn# now to sign up for yoga what diff?
I'm a vet. Mine was stolen. Kiss off.
SSN of commissioned officers used to be published in either the Congressional Record or Federal Register, I forget which. Name and SSN, line after line, thousands of them.
