Obama Bids Farewell to the "Loyal Opposition"

Since the end of the American Civil War, America has been admired around the world for its ability to remain more-or-less unified in its diversity.  But lately I’ve noticed signs of that unity breaking, in what I would call the end of the “loyal opposition.”

In parliamentary governments, there’s a ruling party or coalition which gets to form the government, appoint ministers, and generally run things, while the other not-in-power party or parties sit back and snipe as the “loyal opposition.”  They are opposition in the sense that they don’t support the majority/government party, but considered loyal to the nation itself.

In America’s two-party system, we have no official “loyal opposition” since the congress and the executive branches function separately.  But President Obama comes from a different background than every American president before him.  Having been raised mainly outside the continental United States, and in fact growing up quite a bit abroad, I think he’s seen how other countries see America, and he’s never liked what he saw.

So he set out to “fundamentally transform” our country.

You can’t fundamentally transform something when you recognize a “loyal opposition” as legitimate, so Obama did what all community organizers do: He framed conservatives as illegitimate traitors.

Notice the issues into which Obama interjects himself.  Professor Henry Louis Gates was hassled by Cambridge, Mass. police, and Obama called for a “beer summit.”  When Trayvon Martin was shot and killed by George Zimmerman, Obama said “If I had a son, he’d look like Trayvon.”  When Michael Brown was killed by police officer Darren Wilson, Obama sent the attorney general to Ferguson, Mo.  And the President of the United States himself will deliver the eulogy for the slain S.C. pastor and State Senator Clementa Pinckney on Friday.

In a symbolic and telling gesture, after the funeral, Obama will go to the grounds of the S.C. state Capitol and remove a Confederate battle flag.

The president and his increasingly left-wing party are very focused on symbols and symbolic events.  They are not so much focused on civility toward political opponents, whether in the service of government or not.  In 2011, Obama spoke after a different mass shooting, which injured then-Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, calling for “a more civil and honest pubic discourse.”

He has been neither civil nor honest in his dealings with conservatives.

Some far-left-leaning groups blamed the Arizona attack on conservative partisan remarks.  Of course, the shooter, Jared Lee Loughner, was later found to be a nut case—like almost every single mass shooter, with the exception of Islamic radicals.  The same groups that blame the actions of nut cases on conservative invective also cite ridiculous statistics intended to show that white Americans are a bigger threat than Islamic radicals.  These “studies” get traction in the media, too.

Now we have “rebel culture” on trial after the Charleston shootings, which were perpetrated by a hateful, and extremely misguided youth, Dylann Storm Roof, who could have just as easily chosen Jews as his target if he hadn’t decided they were too white to kill.

And the left blames the Confederate flag, monuments to Jefferson Davis, and next, sweet tea and the American flag.

Rush Limbaugh predicted that the American flag will be the next target for the far-left, and on cue, black supremacist Louis Farrakhan obliged.

“I don’t know what the hell the fight is about over the Confederate flag,” Farrakhan said. “We need to put the American flag down. Because we’ve caught as much hell under that as the Confederate flag.”

Stunningly, Farrahkan is absolutely right.

For 233 out of 238 years since the American flag was adopted in 1777, it flew over all of America, including racists.  For 88 years, it flew over slave-owning plantations, state houses, and government buildings.  It flew over Japanese internment camps.  Today it flies over abortion clinics.  If the left finds that reference distasteful, I’ll add this one for free: it flies over Naval Station Guantanamo Bay.

All of those places and symbols have meaning to Obama and his like-minded liberal cohort.  At the 2015 National Prayer Breakfast, Obama chided Christians, “lest we get on our high horse and think this is unique to some other place, remember that during the Crusades and the Inquisition, people committed terrible deeds in the name of Christ.  In our home country, slavery and Jim Crow all too often was justified in the name of Christ.”

The American flag is symbolic of those acts, just as the Confederate flag stands for the preservation of the antebellum south—and all that goes with it, including the scourge of slavery.

American culture—conservative culture—stands in the way of Obama’s desire to usher in a new world of “basic humility” of which he spoke at the prayer breakfast.  In the left’s parlance, “basic humility” means that the only thing objectively wrong is someone else saying they are absolutely right.

We conservatives who claim and safeguard liberty, who create bulwarks against tyranny through individual rights, are considered beyond the pale of a “loyal opposition.”  To Obama and the left, both we and our ideals are wrong and must be moved out of the way, marginalized, our culture destroyed.

Conservatives don’t support the basic premise that our natural rights are subservient to a “basic humility” whereby we hand them over to society, trusting that the people who would purge all symbols and references to an evil past will not find a new evil onto which they may hitch their plough.  History shows the evil plough always yields a harvest, because the corrupting nature of power of the strong over the weak is irresistible to the earthly soul (which is why conservatives must remain rooted and grounded in a profoundly transcendent superintending of our ideals—God being the most qualified to take that upon Himself).

A century and a half after the end of the American Civil War, we find ourselves fighting it again.  This time there won’t be a mass loss of life, but there will be the loss of something much more valuable to our nation.  Obama’s left seeks to smash the heritage which offered parole to every Confederate soldier who took an oath to the United States.

By summoning the ghosts of all those Americans (yes, Americans) who fought in the Civil War on both sides, and indicting those who fought on the wrong side of the slavery issue for a crime long pardoned and bought with oceans of blood, the president will reopen the chasm he seeks to heal.

If the left has its way, in the America they seek there will be no room for civility, and no place for honest discourse.

Either you will be part of the majority ruling party, or you’ll be an enemy of the state.  Say farewell to the “loyal opposition.”

Read Rules For Radicals and the works of Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dhorn and you'll see where B. Hussein Obama came from.

“Louis Farrakhan is absolutely right.”

Then so goes the Constitution of the United States.
Coup d’état complete.
