An open question to Bernie Sanders regarding your recent comment about deodorant

Bernie Sanders, if this somehow gets your attention, I would like to hear your answer to the following question.

You recently said the following:

“You don’t necessarily need a choice of 23 underarm spray deodorants or of 18 different pairs of sneakers when children are hungry in this country.”

So here is my question for you: please name one real world country where people don’t have easy access to many different kinds of deodorant, but do have easy access to food without having to spend hours waiting in line or buying from the black market.

Didn’t he and his wife take a honeymoon tour of the Soviet Union back in the day? I mentioned this the other day (I thought worth repeating again) that I recall Bing Crosby commenting in the 1954 movie “White Christmas” joking about “digging up a Democrat” as to describe the situation he and Danny Kaye and Vera-Ellen and Rosemary Clooney were in after arriving in Vermont. What happened there so that this apologist for totalitarianism sits in the U.S. Senate for that state?

I have met hundreds of foreigners in my life, mostly students. I always ask them lots of questions about their country of origin out of curiosity. When I ask them what is the most surprising thing about the US, many of them are amazed by our grocery and retail stores.

Bernie is nuts, but he’ll provide plenty of comedy until Hillary pushes him out of the race.

Perfect.

They can’t because the availability of choice in products is caused by the same economic system that produces an abundance of food (and everything else).

Sanders' comment is so 1930s. Back when the liberals and leftists all thought the Soviet Union was a workers paradise, this was one of their arguments. The multiplicity of brands was an example of Capitalism's wastefulness. We didn't need all those brands. It was much better in the USSR, where there was only one brand.

Paul Hollanders book Political Pilgrims has a lot more on how the leftists loved the USSR back then. Still worth reading, because people like Sanders haven't had a new idea since then.
