It's an unfortunate mistake of history that Republicans ceded the political turf in minority communities to welfare-state Democrats. The severe social problems in these communities flow right from a half-century of left-wing programs.
Republican pollster Whit Ayres' new book, 2016 and Beyond: How Republicans Can Elect a President in the New America, bears a crucial message. Republicans must make inroads into non-white America if they wish to occupy the White House in the foreseeable future.
I, and others, have been writing about the electoral implications of sweeping demographic change for a number of years.
The USA is becoming less white. With non-white voters, who vote disproportionately for Democrats, comprising the growing percentage of the total vote, the challenge for Republicans in national elections becomes increasingly formidable.
When Ronald Reagan was elected in November 1980, 88 percent of the American electorate was white. When Barack Obama was elected in 2012, the white vote was down to 72 percent.

No, Reps should concentrate their efforts on winning more of the white vote.

There are two information ghettos which are nearly 100% insulated from truth: the urban zone of the big city and the college campus.
Though the conservative message desperately needs to pierce these two zones by every means possible, it would actually do little good if it did.
These zones first, and above all, need the gospel of Christ and him crucified.
How about Conservatives win the hearts and minds of ALL Americans, by constantly reiterating the principles that make individuals, communities and this nation great? Time tested principles of a strong work ethic, individual rights and freedoms and less government control.
Minorities - and ALL Americans - need to be reminded of the enslavement that dependence on government...or ANY entity other than ones self, brings and prolongs.
Once elected we can initiate policy changes to create more opportunity for all.
Fight for the minds of the mindless?
Best post on this thread. I’m a person of color and conservatism was sold to me by the vision of Ronald Reagan who believed in the individual freedom for all Americans, regardless of our race. Don’t water down conservatism or hone a special message for non whites. The Democrats are the ones who pander for minority votes and see us as their unequals. Affirmative action, racial quotas and set asides is the white liberals way of keeping people of color in their control, and telling people like me we’re not equal to them. Conservatism is the right message for all Americans and needs to be emphasized again and again.
Thanks. You made my point much more eloquently, than I did ;-)
Reagan didn’t pander to any one group....just to the hearts and minds of EVERY American’s abilities and potential.
How is that helpful?
The ‘hearts and minds’ of American minorities is a dead letter for Conservatives.
The sooner Conservatives admit this to themselves and learn to CONDUCT THEMSELVES ACCORDINGLY... the better for all concerned.
Appealing to minorities is a blueprint for failure from here on out!
Aint it enough to ask, “Who wants to be free?”
Why do we have to hand out suckers and accept lawlessness to attract people?
A Democrat leader promises a voter a free dollar. The Democrat leader takes a dollar from somebody who is working. The Democrat leader gives the voter a nickel from that dollar and keeps ninety five cents for himself.
There are three people in this deal. Which one is the winner? Which one is the loser?
The Pubbies should stand on principles. There are no "minority" groups. The "minorities" deserve no more attention than any other group of Americans.
Republicans need to become conservative enough that minorities can understand what they are saying, a Cruz or Reagan, they can understand, but a Dole or a Romney they can’t hear.
When all of the widely diverse immigrants can’t understand your sales pitch, then something is wrong with your communication skills.
How do conservatives compete with Santa Claus amongst the FSA?
