Democrats Seeking Pell Grants for Inmates at the Expense of the Law Abiding

Six democrats are seeking to grant Pell Grants to inmates in prison. They claim that it will make them desirable applicants to companies when they get out of prison. Hey liberals, believe it or not companies aren’t clamoring for graduates of Stu’s University online even if they haven’t knocked off a bank or raped small children. So, why would these cons be employable? Of course, if they were to take computer classes they might stop mugging senior citizens and join the growing identity theft industry.

It’s also important to know that there is not an endless pool of money in the Pell Grant program. Since the proposal covers all state and federal prisoners in the United States (332,000 in 2014) that could mean that a sizable portion of America’s youth, who never even considered knocking off a liquor store could be denied a Pell Grant, especially since we know liberals will give a preference to criminals. (Out of professional courtesy)

The liberals behind this brain storm are Rep. Donna Edwards, Reps. Danny Davis, Barbara Lee, Robert Scott, Rosa DeLauro, and Cedric Richmond. Edwards released the following statement:

“The REAL Act is about restoring education opportunities for our nation’s prisoners so they will have the opportunity to reintegrate as productive members of the community post-incarceration. We know that helping economically challenged individuals work toward post-secondary study and training provides a better future for all Americans. We should provide such opportunities to all to ensure that the cyclical process of repeat incarceration does not continue.”

When you consider that 755 of college graduates of STEM (Science,Technology, Engineering and Math) cannot find work. STEM students are not able to find work because politicians like Marco Rubio favors bringing in foreign workers to take those jobs. In fact, Rubio is currently sponsoring a bill to triple the amount of foreign workers allowed in the STEM field. These prisoners, even if they successfully pass courses in any field, they will find themselves competing against cheap illegal alien labor.

Soon, parents will be encouraging their children to steal their neighbor’s car so they too can get an education.

My son once asked me about Pell Grants some time before he applied to Georgia Tech. I told him that I work and that he is white. He wouldn’t get any kind of grant.

He later graduated with honors after an entire run on the deans list not having paid one cent because of the Georgia Hope Scholarship fund.

We tried three times to get my late step-son into Job Corps to learn a trade. All the other applicants I saw were minorities and were welcomed with open arms. They ignored him blatantly. BTW, they had Obama-themed posters all over the place.

That’s pretty much typical of all these giveaway government programs. You have to filter through color, ethnicity and then financial categories. Probably have added sexual orientation and other factors since my experience.

I’m guessing its a point system. When I taught AFDC & SNAP (welfare & food stamps) recipients how to look for work we sent many of them through college, gratis, and kept them on benefits while they attended. Believe it or not, they still couldn’t find jobs (in a 2% unemployment era) after they graduated!!

We’ve got more than enough receiving papers through diploma mills that cannot find a job. And a lot of these haven’t committed crimes that would put them in prison.

I would guess that diploma mills are the ones pushing this. There is a lot of money to be made off the taxpayers.

Pell Grants need to be declared unconstitutional for several reasons. 1) government monies should go for public/government purposes, not for private charity that benefits individuals. 2)It’s political , often racial...and UNFAIR because Pell Grants are based on “need” & unlike food, shelter or clothing or emergency healthcare... college is not the same kind of “need” & Pell Grants are based on your parents’ income, which is irrelevant.
All college students are equally poor & are over 18 years old, so their parents income should not matter. College students are NOT legally entitled to any of their parents’ income, nor are parents legally obligated to pay for the college education of their children. Pell Grants allow the state to grant a free college education to the children of those who pay no taxes or the least amount of taxes-—on the backs of parents who pay the most taxes & receive the least from government. Often times, people getting Pell Grants have been on the government dole from birth...and now are getting a free college education, too. But all college students should be treated equally under the law and if one student gets a free college education on the state, then ALL college students should get free college paid for by the government. If equal protection belongs to same sex marriage....then equal protection should apply to paying for college, too. And as far as Pell Grants for prison inmates, where’s there any equal protection?
College students work their way through college to ay their way & barely have time to study...but people in prison for committing crimes should get accepted into college before they’ve even finished doing their time...and law-abiding tax-paying citizens on the outside should be forced to pay for the college education of prison inmates, whom the state thinks are more worthy recipients than our own children. I don’t think so. People should go to JAIL for giving government monies/public monies to pay for college education of criminals......

I remember back in my Junior year of college, I was standing in line to register for the next semester ( these were the early 80's when you had to fill out a form and they typed the info into the terminal and at the end of the line you paid the tuition ). Anyway, as I was standing there, there were 2 "youths" standing behind me. One was complaining to the other that his Pell grant was a week late. In the next sentence his said his GPA for that semester was a 1.98 ( and he seemed proud of it ). Steam started coming out of my ears. I had a 3.8 GPA and was not eligible for 1 penny of government aid. I paid my tuition the old fashioned way. I worked and saved every penny I made.

Nothing new. Inmates have been getting “free” college educations for decades.

Thank you for referencing that article 2ndDivisionVet. As usual, please bear in mind that the following critique is directed at the article and not at you.

"Democrats Seeking Pell Grants for Inmates at the Expense of the Law Abiding"

FR: Never Accept the Premise of Your Opponent’s Argument

Since the states have never delegated to the feds, expressly via the Constitution, the specific power to tax and spend for intrastate schooling purposes, the feds actually don’t have the constitutional authority to give pell grants to either law abiding citizens or inmates.

This is all being done to win votes from low-information voters who have probably never been taught about the federal government’s constitutionally limited powers.

And as a consequence of the ill-conceived 17th Amendment the Senate would probably help the House to pass such a bill, corrupt senators wanting their fair share of votes from constitutionally clueless voters.

If they’re diploma mills, I am good with that.

Good private colleges aren’t diploma mills.

Quit being silly.

I am against giving grants (taxpayer money) to put prisoners through “diploma mills.”

If you don’t understand the difference between diploma mills and private colleges, I am sorry.

If you don’t know the abuse of federal grant and loan money by a bunch of scam colleges, I would rather not continue this exchange.
