“Museums are not easy targets to steal stuff, so why bother?”
Museums are safe until someone realizes how much crack and malt liquor you can get for a Botticelli.

To truly appreciate fine arts, the view must be unobstructed and that means paintings being protected by little more than the self restraint of the viewer.
Good luck with that! In fact, look for more of that sort of atavism down the road

Museums intimidate Minorities
Education Intimidates Minorities
Work Intimidates Minorities
Truth and Honesty intimidates minorities
Police intimidate minorities
White People Intimidate Minorities

Interesing....I just sent my mother a Mother’s Day Card....I wrote that one of the best things she ever did was take us to the Library!!! (At very young ages). We were lower middle class...and my childhood family life was weird, especially with a bi-polar/narcissist mother and alcoholic father....but...at LEAST she took us to the LIBRARY and Church, too!

The Diego Rivera murals in the Detroit institute of art are amazing art deco era paintings that are distinctly Detroit.

National parks can also be intimidating. A teacher once told me that kids in Norwalk, Calif. refused to go on a trip to Yosemite National Park because they figured it was on some other gang’s turf.

She is right. They do intimidate the uncomprehending and inattentive minorities. Like expecting a pig to appreciate Leonardo or Mozart.

It occurred to me after I angrily wrote my post that I was really insulting a whole lot of good people I did not intend to: there are really great artists of all nationalities, races and backgrounds and they do excellent jobs at illuminating and illustrating the human condition.
My intent was to be angry at Michelle Obama's thoughtless comments and insulting view that many people would feel "left out" at a museum of fine art. In my experience, almost anyone no matter where they are from or their educational background would enjoy the displays and productions of fine art.
Instead of wrecking our kids' school lunches, she would be a better influence if she sponsored field trips for all schools to these museums.

Other areas of covert racism include:
Rest Stops. More white people stop at rest areas than blacks.
Days of the week (no reference to African Americans in the days of the week)
the phrase “corn cob pipe’ for obvious reasons.
The phrase “sun tan lotion” Again, for obvious reasons.
The phrase, “camping in the woods” Need i say more?
Also,
Toasters are intimidating because they mainly make toast from ‘white bread’
Also,
White wall tires. See: whitey, honky or cracker.

They should spray some graffiti on the artworks to make them feel more at home.

Some truly great "African American art" in the Detroit Institute of the arts by Robert S Duncanson.

The Whitney Museum is a museum of American art. It's "Whitney" Chewbacca, not "Whitey", and no, you do not belong in America.

We never had much money, but our mother took us to the library all the time, and we made MANY,MANY family trips to museums. I am very happy that our four-year old granddaughter is also being brought up on this way.

They sure are pushing Diego and Freida a lot on local TV. Wonder how long that exhibit will run.
