Enough is Enough, It’s Time to Downsize the Federal Government

Repair and realignment of our federal government

The size of the federal government has exploded over the last century. The legislative and judicial branches of government have grown to serve the increased number of states and its growing population. The size and scope of the executive branch has grown to reflect an expanded role of the federal government over the last 100 years.

Apparently the staffing of fourteen separate Cabinet Departments were not enough to manage the current executive branch, so Barack Obama felt the need to appoint a number of “czars” to focus on special emphasis areas. Recent studies have found that economic growth rates decline when relative government spending exceeds 26% of GDP, and the United States government current spending is close to 40% of GDP. The Republican Party claims the core principle of limited government, but has actively participated in this growth in both size and scope of the federal government. There is still the question of constitutionality why the federal government has expanded into areas not explicitly called out for in the 10th Amendment. Ronald Reagan diagnosed this problem with “government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem”

Of course, especially regarding government employment.
Used to be 1 out of 100 worked for government. Now it has become a treasure trove for 1 out of 9 who are the new elite class.
Meanwhile as government grew the private sector shrank.

Hopefully Ted Cruz will not be the only Presidential candidate who will offer radical reform ideas to begin the repair and realignment of our federal government.

If others do offer the ideas it'll probably just be blather (imo).

I can sum it up in four words:

“NOT GOING TO HAPPEN”.

Too many politicians and their business cronies have too much at stake to just give it all up and go down the straight and Constitutional narrow

The only way out now is an all out civil war, or the feds will go full tilt soviet stalin style on the US population.

Its way past time to downsize but both parties like big govt. Closing even one rogue agency will be a monumental fight.

This gubbamint is a run away train. Full tilt toward fiscal collapse with no one, no way to apply the brakes.

Have you heard our newly elected representatives/senators stand up and cry foul in regards to federal spending?

How bout that report a couple of weeks ago that we’ve reached the debt ceiling? {{crickets chirping}}

What about a balanced budget amendment? Trade imbalance? Jobs/manufacturing?

Nothing. What we hear is another wave of thousands of illegals crossing the border. TB, Measles, Scabies, Hepatitis, whooping cough making a resurgence in the U.S.

What we hear is the federal reserve about to push up interest rates...to what? Slow economic growth?

No government shutdown McConnell chimes in.

What we hear is foreign illegals and H1B visa holders getting preferential treatment over American citizens and if we don’t like it....we’re racist, bigots.

Actually, it wouldn’t be all that hard.

The Baby Boomers who make up the majority of govies are in or near retirement age. A heck of a lot of the Xers who go into gvt service bail out within 5 years. The inflexible structure of Fed service doesn’t appeal to Millenials.

So throw on a multi-year hiring freeze and let attrition do all the work. Once agencies reach the points where they don’t have the staff to do the work, you start consolidating functions.

End result, fewer workers in fewer and smaller agencies.
