Oddly enough, this seems to get easier with each successive round. Selections in bold.

6 1980 "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" Queen
2 1982 "Eye of the Tiger" Survivor

5 1982 "Centerfold" The J. Geils Band
6 1984 "Jump" Van Halen

7 1985 "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" Tears for Fears
7 1987 "Here I Go Again" Whitesnake

2 1988 "Need You Tonight" INXS
4 1988 "Never Gonna Give You Up" Rick Astley

I find it funny that when I was 17, I alternately disregarded and disparaged Rick Astley. Now, like many Stock-Aitken-Waterman hits, I find this and various of his other singles ridiculously catchy.

OK, these are my picks, then:

2 1982 “Eye of the Tiger” Survivor (more typical 80s, and I really like it)

5 1982 “Centerfold” The J. Geils Band (still say Jump is the lamest Halen hit; it’s OK, but I can’t believe the love it gets here; Centerfold is more typical 80s sound)

7 1985 “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” Tears for Fears (kind of hard; I like this song better now than then, but it still is more typical of “80s” than a metal song, which I only kind of like)

2 1988 “Need You Tonight” INXS (again, more typical ‘80s than a disco song - which I love; but I love this song too)

TOURNAMENT OF CHART-TOPPERS (’80S) PING!

Another bump for people to vote!

Come on, only 4 decisions to make!

(How can so few be voting this time?)

pitiful....so many good bands and songs in the 70s so few in the 80s. but multiples of 100s.

yes most of the winners(how did you lose Floyd?) in your chart toppers are good....but such a small number.

That's it, I cannot in good conscience vote for any of the other songs.

I have no choice options left. I can’t understand any of these songs besting “Southern Cross”, “Bad to the Bone”, or “Ride like the Wind”.

Southern Cross - best performance #18 weekly charts.

Bad the the Bone - best #27 on “Mainstream Rock” chart only.

Ride Like the Wind - no question a top song, #17 Year-End.

Billboard ranks them, I only used top 7 songs of each year.

Maybe we can do best of the ‘70s and we’ll list the songs that will be on it. ;-)

Billboard is probably influenced by record label pressure and money as much as politicians are. Looking back through some of their top hit picks for different years seems laughable to me.

Then again, maybe my tastes are contrary to the majority of the population and a song like 'Take it to the Limit' by the Eagles wasn't even considered top 20 in a year where Paul McCartney's "Silly Love Songs" was number one.

#25 for the YEAR? I’d say that is very prominent.

I go by what I actually remember hearing all the time, and what people generally seemed to be talking about. It’s not about my preferences.

Some surprise me, but most don’t.

I liked most of them. But not all. Never cared for “Broken Wings”, didn’t care for most “solo-white-guy” songs in the ‘80s, but there it is at #5 on the year, and I believe it. Heard it plenty. Didn’t want to, but it’s the truth.
