The BBC’s coverage of the bombing of Dresden in which Britain was described as ‘worse than the Nazis’ was condemned as disgraceful by RAF veterans and MPs last night.

Despite dedicating more than 32 minutes of airtime to the 70th anniversary of the fire-bombing that killed tens of thousands at the end of the Second World War, there was barely a mention of British airmen who lost their lives.

The BBC’s four major news shows and Radio 4 interviewed multiple German survivors of the bombings.

They also showed a British prisoner of war who berated those who ordered the raids, adding it was ‘demonic’ and ‘evil’.

Don’t worry, there are a few FReepers who feel the same way about allied “war crimes”.

We should have firebombed (in lieu of nuking) offending middle eastern cities(including those in Egypt and Saudi) after 9/11. Never mind this smart bomb BS. Bomber Harris and LeMay were RIGHT!

There were no innocent civilians in WWII. The German people were enablers, not victims. The war, for all sides was existential. It was a last man standing fight.

This is not the story of how Adolph hitler seized power in Germany. This is the story of how and why the German people gave it to him.

This is what happens in war. You kill the enemy. Not just the enemy soldiers, all of the enemy. The women that birth the soldiers and the chdren that grow into soldiers and soldiers’ mothers.
The Muslims understand that. They kill any jew or Christian they can capture, soldier or no. Only our weak wussified society has forgotten that and gives in to its women bemoaning the death of innocents. There are no innocents. They will kill you if they can.

Yep. They'll be out in force this August.

I would have used the nukes. Nothing makes a statement like a mushroom cloud.

Unfortunately, so typical for our morally-relaticvistic age. Yeah, yeah, yeah, BOTH sides were simply “victims” of man's inhumanity to man” blah, blah
h, blah. Warfare was barbaric and cruel and we should have known better, yada, yada...come on folks, the Krauts of 1945 deserved every single incendiary they got plastered with. Only those who do not understand or read history, which encompasses many millions would even dare to compare the heroic allied bombing campaign and the airmen who sacrificed their lives so that we could, 70 years later we could question their motives and actions. WHAT A DISGRACE!

Others maintain that it was ghastly, but Hitler started it so needed to be answered in a language he understood. Unfortunately, records show that the first intentional “area bombing” of civilians in the Second World War took place at Monchengladbach on 11 May 1940 at Churchill’s orders (the day after he dramatically became prime minister), and four months before the Luftwaffe began its Blitz of British cities.

Even the women, on that last. Read the last verse of Kipling’s The Young British Soldier. I wonder if they even teach Kipling in British schools any more?

I’ve about had it with moral equivalency. Things are done in combat to SAVE lives, i.e. taking prisoners. I have no problem with supposed “war crimes”. I DO have a problem with the crazies who are always trying to find fault with this country.

Don’t like it here; go, there’s no anchor on your posterior.

I know a female National Guardsman who went to Afghanistan as some sort of liaison with the idealistic belief that she was going to help the Afghan women. After a year she says “F em”.

They’re just as bad or worse than the men. She said they smiled in her face and happily called her a Christian whore only worthy of death. They counted military personnel and weapons so they could send the kids to run the info to taliban men.

My understanding of the politics of the raid was that Russia was taking massive casualties and Stalin was pressuring the allies to support him. The allies had run out of suitable targets and wanted to draw off any remaining German forces to relieve the Russian effort on Berlin. (Comments?)
