Only Arab Leader Ever to Have Appeared on 'Star Trek'?

ISIS-killer King Abdullah II of Jordan, that's who!

And as is the case with current Canadian -and Australian- leadership,
King Abdullah II of Jordan also appears to have a far better grip on dealing with challenges to US security/interests these days than clueless-and-of-dubious-agenda Obama regime ever will.

Perhaps this is not a surprise: even though there's been some bumps in the relationship (i.e. backing Saddam Hussein 2x), ever since the 6-Day War Jordan has become known as one of the most stable US allies in the Middle East, running a moderate Islamic government that doesn't care much for extremists, nor do they bother Israel. Yet despite four decades of royal cooperation with the US (and CIA), anti-Americanism runs rampant on the streets of Amman.

They also lack natural resources and the economy is weak- so US $/military aid is what keeps them afloat, the country on a light-reform track, and Abdullah in power. Like most Arab countries, most good jobs are with the government, and little or no wealth is ever actually created.

The 'Little King that Could' appears to be a bit of an Ameri-phile, tho -and not just because of US international welfare: he attended Georgetown University in the 1980s and is a BIG 'Star Trek' fan (!).

And it's true that in 1996, Abdullah -then just a prince- actually appeared as an uncredited extra in a 'Star Trek: Voyager' episode entitled 'Investigations':

He's such an avid 'Trekkie' geek that the King has been promoting the contraction of a Star Trek theme park just outside the Jordanian capital of Amman, at least partly to bolster the country's fading tourist industry.

Abdullah -as you may have recently heard- is also a trained pilot: he earned his wings flying anti-tank attack helicopters for the Jordanian Air Force, and besides being King of Jordan is currently the country's Commander-in-Chief. He's been quoting Clint Eastwood lately, and saying he might just suit-up and go on ISIS-obliteration sorties himself... interesting character:

The current King of Jordan, the picture of whom you may have seen recently posted on Facebook in full battle gear in the aftermath of the Jordanian pilot being burned alive by ISIS. King Abdullah was studying in Georgetown University and really became enamored with the show, Star Trek; The Next Generation and through his connections got to make an appearance on the show. There is a clip of his appearance on YouTube, where he appears for a few seconds in a Star Trek uniform entering the scene coming off an elevator and greeting the crew.

His love of Star Trek has compelled him to build a Star Trek Amusement Park across the border from Eilat, Israel. I read about it about 2 years ago but have no updated information about the project since then.

Never mind. I just found his name listed in the Voyager episode. I’ll have to watch that one on my next days off.

His mom was born in the UK actually. I lived in Amman for several years. He does walk the talk. I doubt he would ever go on a mission. He had to stop flying the single engine cobra’s for safety reasons of only one engine when he became king. He does fly his Blackhawk around the country. He’s a shooter as well and has been to Gunsite with training by Jeff Cooper couple times. He’s brought his Harley to the states several times to ride on short vacations.

Pretty good travel show with Abdulla leading the tour from some years ago. (Tourism is a major industry in Jordan)

No, he is actually half-English on his mother’s side, and served in the British Army, as did his father.

I think Blackwater retained space at the Bristol hotel? The Dyncorp folks at the Sheraton. I had an apartment two blocks from the Bristol. Had a monthly membership in the gym.

Good question. I did see the clip of his appearance, just a stock image scene of a Star Fleet officer walking by greeting others. At first I thought it was definitely Star Trek:TNG but later, I had to admit my memory was a bit fuzzy on it and realized it might have been Voyager. You can do a search on You Tube, Voyager, Abdullah and the scene would probably show up. Sorry about any confuision
