VANITY: SCRIPTURE HELP FOR UNEMPLOYED FRIEND
VANITY | NONE | fatnotlazy

Posted on 02/03/2015 2:29:06 PM PST by fatnotlazy

Freeper Friends: A close friend lost her job a week ago. This afternoon she called me feeling very depressed and anxious. I'm trying to be there for her and offer her words of encouragement. As she is a devout Christian, I'm looking for some Scripture that might lift her up. Can any of you help me? Thank you.

Romans 8:28, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

I think I read the Book of Job 47 times in early 2010. It helped.

Send me her resume and I’ll try to help. I’ve helped many thousands of people to find work.

Psalm 23 (NIV)
A psalm of David.

1 The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
3 he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
for his name’s sake.
4 Even though I walk
through the darkest valley,[a]
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.

5 You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
6 Surely your goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
forever.

Romans 5:3-4

More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope

Jeremiah 29:11

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Philippians 4:6

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

As I’m sure you know, there is no silver bullet verse to stop the pain.

You must urge your friend not to fall into the trap of retribution, that is, something is wrong with her life, or she has done something wrong and therefore God is holding out on her or punishing her for something.

This is a lie from the accuser.

Second, urge your friend to seek God with her whole heart. Your friend is suffering and God uses suffering to draw us near to Him and to mold us — but it is acutely painful.

This is very hard to grasp, but your friend is blessed. If she clings to the Lord she will go deep and see His tender love for her.

A couple of versus:

Jeremiah 29:11-13
1 Peter 4:12,13

Get active in the job search.

Each resume sent is a small contribution to her future.

Each response is one closer to a “Come in. I’d like to interview you”.

Each interview is one step closer to being hired.

Maybe losing her job was but, one small (feels large) message to do something else.

One door closes, another always opens.

Never, ever buy into scarcity.

And finally:
“Ask and it will be given, Seek and you will find, Knock and it will be opened unto you.”

America is the land of second chances and I know a few Freepers who hung in there, a couple for years, and now they are back at work.

Two are being paid outrageous sums of money and doing very well.

There is always hope for the new.

You have to believe it can happen.

You have to believe you can make it happen.

You have to believe you are the only one who can make it happen.

You have to believe hiring you would be an incredibly good decision, because she is so unique and distinguished from anyone else, that not hiring her would be a bad decision.

“As a man thinketh, so is he”.

Get a new vision of your life.

I called a renewal and new story of triumph, then see yourself being triumphant.

My dos centavos...

Maybe you could help my husband he was laid off in November 2013. We actually moved to another state but he has had no luck.

So funny! I was JUST reading this when I saw your post. Russell Wilson, The Seattle Seahawks quarterback, just now posted this on Facebook. Not scripture (although Wilson is a good Christian), but I hope it helps your friend.

Russell Wilson:

Thank you to a good friend for passing this inspiration message along. 12’s, share this with your friends and loved ones if you are already focusing on next season.

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,

When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit-
Rest if you must, but don’t you quit.

Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a fellow turns about
When he might have won had he stuck it out.
Don’t give up though the pace seems slow -
You may succeed with another blow.
Often the goal is nearer than

It seems to a faint and faltering man;
Often the struggler has given up
Whe he might have captured the victor’s cup;
And he learned too late when the night came down,
How close he was to the golden crown.
Success is failure turned inside out -

The silver tint in the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It might be near when it seems afar;
So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit -
It’s when things seem worst that you must not quit.

Take seriously the help here from some Freepers!
We have all been there but this may require tough decisions.

From the KJV:

Joshua 1:9 - Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God [is] with thee whithersoever thou goest.

Thank you. She has some possibilities, but I think she thought she’d be hired quickly. She worked for this firm for more than 15 years and doesn’t realize the employment situation has changed. It’s not as easy as it once was.

Her resume-writing skills are probably sorely out of date. She needs to look at her resume like a website trying to get hits, with keywords. That’s the way HR departments scan through the mass of resumes they receive to cull them down enough to look at them individually. Sounds sort of silly and perhaps it is, but you’ve got to get over that first hurdle to even get that initial phone interview these days. If it’s beyond her, start researching resume writing services. Shouldn’t be more than a couple hundred dollars at most, including a LinkedIn profile. She’ll need one of those too, and start linking up with people in her industry, even former coworkers.

There was a time in Des Moines when you could go on lunch break and have another job by that afternoon. That world is gone.
