My mother’s first husband was killed by a sniper in Germany during the lasts two weeks of the war,

And lots of other husbands and fathers were killed ... by grunt infantrymen, by gunners, by pilots, by bombardiers, by torpedomen ...

My mother never said anything vicious about snipers - ever.

She demonstrated sanity. I'm not at all clear on why anyone would hate snipers, but not hate grunts, gunners, pilots, etc. It just makes no sense.

You make an excellent point. I do have some admiration for snipers because of their brilliant skills. In Medieval times they were called “men of keen sight.”
