Racing toward a third Party: Can we win in 2020 by losing in 2016?
Coach is Right ^ | 12/30/14 | Kevin "Coach" Collins

When they were a new “third Party” the Republicans nominated John C. Fremont as their presidential candidate in 1856. He didn’t win, but his candidacy served well as a vehicle to introduce the idea of the Republican Party to the voting public. In the next four years the Republicans gained traction because they were right on the issues of the day and although they have lost badly a few times since, they have won some landslide victories and remained one of the two major parties in America.

The lesson here is that on their first try, third parties don’t win. But if they are right on the issues they can survive to develop influence. The election of 2016 will be the best third party opportunity in the last 160 years. Nevertheless, a 2016 third party candidacy will fail as well. So, the question for us will become do we walk away and take what is thrown at us; or carefully weigh the results and look to 2020?

The Democrat wing of the Uniparty is rushing toward nominating either Hillary Clinton or Elizabeth Warren. The Republican wing of the Uniparty is hell bent on nominating the male counterpart to either of these far left, extremist females. Whether it is Jeb Bush, Mitt Romney, Chris Christie or maybe even Lindsey Graham there will be little difference between the eventual Republican nominee and either Clinton or Warren.

This means that for us the 2016 presidential election will be a “tails they win, heads we lose,” proposition; and it also means that TEA...

We just have to have Lindsey Graham for President in 2016!

The reality is the GOP will be a fractured party in 2016. If Jeb gets nominated we bail on him. If Ted Cruz gets the nod the establishment will do a “Goldwater” on him and deny him funding and hang him out to dry. Maybe 2020 is the year we start the long fight to rescue the nation with a new political party.

What conservatives have to do is take over the Republican Party, and not try to invent a new party.

The Socialists and Communists knew they couldn't run with an S or a C behind their names, so they took over the Democrat party, and put a D behind their names, and have been succcesful.

Conservatives have to do the same thing with the Republican Party. - tom

One of the first big questions about losing in 2016: can Scalia, Thomas, and Kennedy all survive until 2021?

If the liberals have five votes on the Supreme Court, no amount of winning after 2016 will do us any good, as anything conservative that gets challenged in court will be knocked-down.

We have to find a way to solve the riddle of 2016.

It needs to happen before then. A Cruz-style conservative is the Republican Party’s only hope in 2016 and everyone knows it.

When conservatives don’t get that nominee, it’s time to file divorce papers. No more Stepford Conservatives. We get what we want — now — or the third party building process begins.

It has to start sometime. Kicking the can is for loses like John Boehner and Mitch McConnell. Conservatives build things. So let’s get started.

How many Senators lost to same-party competitors in 2014?

How many Senators lost to different-party competitors in 2014?

==

Especially for the Senate, it is nearly impossible to replace an incumbent during the primary season. Most changes come by electing someone of the opposite party.

Sorry, but I could not walk into a voting booth and pull a lever for another Bush OR Clinton for pres. Didn’t we have a revolution to prevent this kind of stuff?

I say TEA party folks get to work locally on local candidates in all races, committee chairmans, then do our own endorsements, fund raising mechanisms, etc starting NOW, with the clear message that the status-quo won’t do.

To answer the question: after what happened in november and the GOP leadership response, if is CLEARLY time for a 3rd party.

just my $0.02

In Canada, it took about 14 years for the Reform party, having split form the Progressive Conservatives, to go from the wilderness and finally recreate the Conservative party to gain power in 2004, or so. It was a fortunate opportunity that Canada had Preston Manning to do this for us.

While I share the sentiments with those here who want to Brea away and create a new party, I don’t know if you have that same 14 year window to do it. I fear what the Communists could do in that time if they were able to run unfettered.

My concern is whether Ginsberg can hold in. Whatever her leanjngs, she has been opposing Obama since he got elected.

If Ted Cruz gets the nod the establishment will do a “Goldwater” on him and deny him funding and hang him out to dry.

The reason Goldwater lost had nothing to do with funding.

LBJ was replacing a loved, murdered President and no pubbie could have won, especially after the "Daisy/atom bomb commercial.

The campaign was less than a year after Kennedy was shot, and his widow was for LBJ, and with those cute little kids, smiling and "visiting uncle lyndon" goldwater was toast.

Any new party will take time. UKIP has been building in the UK for the last decade and the best it will get next year in the elections is under 100 seats in the 650 seat House of Commons.

But they will force the UK Uniparty (Conservative-Labour) to form a national government, proving their point that the major Democrat-Republican type parties are not different like they claim to be with their bombastic election propaganda.

That will set the stage for the next election.

A third party will take time to build and to have effect, but the nation will survive like Canada did under Liberal rule during the third party era which lasted for a decade starting in 1993.

That has kept conservatives 'on the reservation' since GHW Bush was elected in 1988.

How many conservatives have even been the party nominee in that 24 years? Answer NONE.

How many conservatives has Boehner appointed to committee chairmanships? How many will McConnell appoint?

How many more decades will it take for the conservatives to take over the Republican Party from within?

I honestly think the dire predictions about what Democrats will do if given unfettered power constitute fear propaganda being spread by the GOPe.

Good News / Bad News

The Good

While the Tea Party/Conservatives are having a difficult time taking down incumbents during National Elections, on the local level the GOPe is losing, so in the future the Tea Party will "have a strong bench" and eventually win.

The Bad

However, Demographics makes it all moot

By the time Conservatives purge the GOP-E, it will be too late, the country won't be White any more and the 3rd party will be the La-Raza Party.

There is an existing party that has the mechanism to put candidates on the ballot. It would be far easier to grow and tweak the Libertarian Party. They are second to none on fiscal conservatism, more pro gun than any Republican and a large influx of pro lifers could persuade them that abortion is murder.

Nanny staters would object.
