According to Luke ONeil, reporting on Black Friday brawls is both classist and racist.
The story, called Black Friday brawl videos are how rich people shame the poor, ONeil says that rich people report on Black Friday violence in order to make fun of and shame poor people.
Dont think that people should be brawling in a Wal-Mart or mall? Then youre a rich snob, ONeil explains. You take your wealth for granted, he writes, and make fun of people fighting in Best Buy because youre privileged.
Look at these hilarious poor people, ONeil writes, struggling to take advantage of a deal on something they might not otherwise be able to afford on items that we take for granted, we joke on Twitter.
On top of this, capitalism plays a behinds-the-scene role, according to ONeil. In other words, videos of the type of violence that takes place on Black Friday are being used to sell the shopping holiday back to us, he writes, the capitalist serpent swallowing its own tail.
And while not all Black Friday shoppers are African American, ONeil believes that they are intentionally, prominently shown for shock effect. Theres no denying, he explains, the demographics that seem to show up again in the type of videos we all find so hilarious, however. As weve seen of late in the Ferguson-related unrest, the physical struggles of non-white America writ large make for great television.

So don’t report on it already.
Let other media outlets do it.
Reporting on reporting OTOH...
No less salacious, just from a position of tsk tsk tsk...
I guess he doesn’t realize that those people don’t think of themselves as poor or low class.
They think it’s fun to get a bargain. They are having a good time.
Reporting stopped being about telling people what is going on in the world a long time ago.
“Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!”
This guy thinks I laugh? I cry for my poor country when witnessing these scenes.
I don’t find it “hilarious”, I think it’s disgusting. People with no sense of propriety or decorum, acting like a bunch of 5 year olds at a pinata.
Black Friday is followed by White Saturday and Retard Sunday.
Best bet is White Saturday.
True, but those people have no purpose to what they do.
The children are least trying to get candy.
After working tirelessly for decades to reduce morality in our culture, they take offense at anyone mentioning the results of their efforts.
just the po folk tryin to stretch out their EBT is all...
Yes, protect the guilty and condemn the innocent.
well, if the WashPost stops reporting on regular American citizens (for the most part) and what they’re doing in their lives, maybe this will free up resources enabling the paper to start reporting on illegal aliens and (in) the WH, the IslamoNazi “invasion” and subversion of USA, the destruction or undermining of America’s liberty, economy, morals, values, faith, defenses, and allies, etc.
It could be a good thing if the WashPost stops running all the diversionary articles about “unimportant” Americans...
I’m more irritated about people who camp out for a week so they can be the first one to get whatever the new electronic gadget is
Oh well it’s their life. Priorities and first world problems
>>This guy thinks I laugh? I cry for my poor country when witnessing these scenes.
I laugh because I stopped crying for my poor country several years ago when a Marxist stood in front of the Greek columns and proclaimed that the planet was going to start healing now. My country died that day and I’m thankful that my wife and I never had children because I would not want them to end up as slaves to the people pushing and clawing their way into a Best Buy at 4 am to get a cheap Blu-Ray player.
Social Marxism at its finest by the Compost.
Jeepers, Mr. Wilson!
what was the plot of the movie, with a black guy and a white guy, fighting over a toy soldier???
It SEEMS that the televised outcropping of shopper violence, is the WORST between Negro women shoppers!
So, as an answer, don’t televise such junk!
