I spoke with a Pakistani about three weeks after 9/11. I asked whether he had been hassled by anyone because of the attack.

He said in a wondering tone: “Nothing, nobody has said a thing. I can’t believe it. In my country they would try to kill me and my family, burn down our business and our home. It would be days of rioting.”

I said “Well, you didn’t do it, some other guy did and when we find him we will grease him.”

He said “Thank you...I still can’t believe it”.

A few months later he told me that he had applied for citizenship. I shook his hand, congratulated and welcomed him to the family.

This was in rural Texas.

Supposedly, when that Korean guy killed all those students at Virginia Tech, some S.Korean journos were warning that there could be a terrible backlash against Koreans in the U.S. There was no backlash. We don't do backlash against innocent people. That's for third world countries...and that's one huge reason they're third world countries.

p.s. Unless, of course, it's a Dem president like FDR who interned the Japanese and semi-encouraged assaults on Japanese-American citizens during WWII.
