WHO: Up to 10,000 new cases of Ebola per week by December

The World Health Organization is warning on Tuesday that the Ebola epidemic in West Africa may explode in the coming days as the disease spreads exponentially. In the three West African nations most stricken by the outbreak of the deadly hemorrhagic fever, the WHO warned that there could soon be as many as 5,000 to 10,000 new cases per week by December.

“The outbreak is still expanding geographically in Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia and accelerating in capital cities, Bruce Aylward, the WHO’s assistant director-general in charge of the Ebola response, said in a briefing with reporters in Geneva,” Bloomberg reported. “There have been about 1,000 new cases a week for the past three to four weeks, he said.”

Aylward added that there are presently around 1,000 new cases diagnosed per week, but warned that the infection rate is likely to expand dramatically. If the Ebola crisis is not resolved soon, “a lot more people will die,” he warned.

“As of Tuesday morning, 8,914 Ebola cases and 4,447 deaths had been reported to WHO,” USA Today reported. “Alyward stressed that the true number of deaths and infections is probably much higher.”(continued)

Wow, what a genius.

Blomberg reported the story. Maybe he should start Moms Against Ebola.

Well of course, the Obungler wants Ebola to spread in America too. Remember, many of those slime bags said 25 million Americans need to be killed off. Can you think of a better way to do it?

Uhh...if it’s exploding exponentially, wouldn’t logic be to keep everyone in the danger zone contained, and do everything possible to treat everyone there as if they had the disease?

We do need to stop the flights. That’s a given. Quarantine is quarantine. However, like any and now all, government agencies, their reports are suspect. Nigeria is doing well, so take it with the proverbial grain of salt. As I said, flights should be cancelled for a while.

I guess it's a coincidence that the three large red areas have a LAB (National Laboratory i.e. Bioweapon research labs)

They have indeed. Kudos to Nigeria and to the Democratic Republic of Congo. I was reading a story yesterday from the Yahoo News website. Seems some families are bribing hospital officials to change the causes of death on their family member’s death certificate. This way the surviving family members are not shunned and the body of the dead is taken home for a traditional burial. This is happening in Liberia, if I recall correctly. These burial rituals that include washing the dead are the primary reason Ebola is running rampant in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea. Couple this with the mind-boggling ignorance of the populace and willful disregard of their governments’advice to halt the spread of Ebola, there seems little that can be done to keep that number from going MUCH higher.

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

The liberal politicians love to do things around Christmas for the unwashed masses full of the little people. It looks like we’re getting Ebola from the ‘RATS this year for Christmas.

Actually, I read here a week or so back, when they were saying 3,000 had died that half of that was in the previous three weeks. That supports a case rate of 2. So we can expect a doubling of the fatalities and cases every three weeks. My rough calculations a couple days ago put it at 30,000 dead by mid December, IIRC. A billion by next Thanksgiving.

good insight. Too bad WHO doesn’t have a cultural division that tracks the UNHEALTHY practices of a nation and works to publicly educate about when to forgo a tradition or convince them that it can be changed to a new tradition under those circumstances.

Stopping teh flight is an easy answer. If the southern border isn’t sealed I agree with the above statement that millions will flock in from the south.

The governments of these countries have and are still trying to provide solid information of what to do and what not to do. The citizenry is refusing to listen. The Horsemen of Pestilence and Death ride through the cities and countryside of the affected areas at will. Yet, the population continues to embrace the customs that by extension allow The Horsemen free reign.

What can ANY government or philanthropic organization say or do in the face of such willful ignorance?
