Last week, the Supreme Court declined to hear several Appeals Court cases on gay marriages, which resulted in bans on gay marriage being struck down in numerous states across the country.
Following the Supreme Court's decision to punt on the issue of gay marriage, Meet the Press moderator Chuck Todd saw this as a sign that social conservatism was declining and obnoxiously asked "it is time for conservatives to surrender in the culture wars?"
After playing a pre-packaged segment on the evolution of social conservatism in the United States, the NBC host did his best to portray social conservatives as being on the losing side of public opinion:
The stuff has moved whether it's on abortion, whether it's on gay marriage, whether it's on marijuana legalization. The culture wars have shifted to the left. Many Republicans are trying to acknowledge that general public shift. And yet it's going to cause some heartburn. ...

What say you?
Priebus said that the issue of same-sex marriage was not a “top-tier” issue, but where does he and Boehner stand beyond that on that issue and on the issues of abortion and marijuana legalization?
Including marijuana legalization in there is idiotic. It is the constitutionally consistent position.
It’s undeniable that the left has lied and bullied its way to gains on ‘gay marriage’ and dope, but since when is it true that they’re winning on abortion? Seems to me that the pro-life movement is unbowed, unbroken and has scored quite a fair number of small victories lately.
Should all three of these issues be left up to the states?
The reason I am asking this: is that where the Republican leadership is headed or what they now advocate concerning these three?
Do you have to ask? They no longer even ‘stand’ on those issues at all, if it can be avoided. From a certain perspective, it’s understandable that the GOP leaders do not champion the core conservative causes and beliefs. Why should they, when all the judges are ruling against Traditional ways of living and marrying. The best hope is to slowly seed the judiciary with new conservatives over a few years, so that some of this can be reversed. Logic has been largely flushed down to toilet in the name of political correctness. How else to explain Christian Cakemakers losing their livelihood via legislation, talk show pundits and Twitter Wars? No one with any power is standing up for these people, who are being steamrolled by fashionable laws.
The Culture war has to be won through the culture, not in the courts and not in politics. Ultimately courts and the law simply reflect the culture.
Winning the culture war requires paying more attention to what is happening in public education, from elementary school to graduate university programs.
Then pay attention to media and entertainment.
That’s where the battle has been lost.
Why would any conservative accept Chuck’s “helpful” suggestions? He’s nothing but a saboteur.
Hey Chuck, why do you suggest surrender to Satan?
Do you really believe the killing babies and condoning unnatural acts is something to give up on?
Why don’t powerful and influential Republicans/Libertarians/Libertarian Republicans -— and/or the men and women who give generously to PACs and Republican candidates -— start pumping out large amounts of $$$ to buy up TV channels and radio stations, with a promotion of traditional/moral values on TV and talk radio stations?
Chuck Todd wouldn’t know a principle if he tripped over it.
Of course all three issues should be left up to the states.
However, there is a possible constitutional problem with State A deciding not to recognize a marriage duly solemnized in State B.
Has gay marriage won anywhere? The only gains its made is via courts. I know it polls better but to me that’s more a dynamic of respondents not wanting to be called homophobes - as they see how the gay mafia works. Who is to say your name phone won’t be published to some website following the poll. These people are professional Nazis.
Chuck Todd is definitely inclined to the political left, but I may ask, how could he sabotage Republicans if the Republican leadership is out right now promoting traditional values? If they aren’t out right now doing this, is he calling them out? If so, should we be mad at Chuck Todd or ashamed at the Republican leadership if they aren’t promoting traditional values? Maybe both mad and ashamed is the correct course of action...
Absolutely 100% correct! Bravo! (Or, possibly, Brava!)
Except I think the media and entertainment are more critical than education. That’s where people learn what is “normal” and “accepted” in their society, without even realizing it.
What about marijuana being bought in state A, and then that marijuana is taken to state B where it is not legal?
Yes, it has, in a small number of states. And if we really believe in small government, where it has won by virtue of a plebiscite or an act of the state legislature (duly elected by the people, who can vote them out if they’re not happy with this vote), then we need to acknowledge that this is what these states have chosen.
You have to know that the Karl Roves of the world listen to this rubbish. That’s how we got losing candidates like McCain (with his terrible RINO track record) and Romney (very decent guy but too liberal).
Why does this MSM tird try to equate conservatives with the Republican party?
“Why dont powerful and influential Republicans/Libertarians/Libertarian Republicans - and/or the men and women who give generously to PACs and Republican candidates - start pumping out large amounts of $$$ to buy up TV channels and radio stations, with a promotion of traditional/moral values on TV and talk radio stations?”
Because that doesn’t pay as well.
Except for social conservatives like the ones here at FR, there isn’t any ideology involved.
The GOP doesn’t care one way or another about social issues other than as a way to collect votes. Now that the trend is against socially conservative issues, the GOP wants those issues to just go away.
Media concerns care even less.
The ideology there is Pay Me.
Culturally, the wheel has turned.
I don’t expect it’s going to turn back.
