Geez. I seem to recall somebody saying something about "energy prices necessarily skyrocketing". Wonder if these plant closings will "help" with that? Sadly, not enough cojones in dysfunctional city to defund these assclowns.

“In other words, EPA is shutting down enough generating capacity to power every home in Washington, Oregon, California, Idaho, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, North and South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Arkansas, and Louisiana.”

There is no replacement any time soon for this power grid loss.

Rolling brownouts, or total regional winter blackouts, will become the norm;

Electric car owners will ave to chose between charging the car or keeping the lights on;

Hospitals will have to chose between keeping drugs refrigerated or the lights on during surgery;

Charging personal computers and gadgets will pass into history;

The list goes on ...

When I was a boy the argument was anthracite or bituminous

Ask a 30 something which they would chose and the answer would be, “Say what?”

40 years form now, tell a 30 something that when you were a boy cell phones were almost a foot long and weighed pounds, and the answer will be, “What’s a cell phone?”

In WWII, to prevail against our enemies we sent wave after wave of bombers to bomb their power plants out of existence.

Now our enemies send wave after wave of EPA drones dropping their bureaucratic neutron bombs on our power plants to do the same thing to US.

I said to that undertaker
Undertaker please drive slow
For this lady you are carrying
Lord, I hate to see here go

Will the circle be unbroken...

Ignoring the global warming scare about CO2, a new coal-fired plant, which removes all emissions harmful to health, has a lower cost per KWH of output than a new gas-fired plant. There is therefore no rationale for the proposed EPA regulations. If promulgated, they should be revoked by a future Republican administration.

A coal-fired plant’s CO2 emissions are approximately double that of a gas-fired plant. CO2 Sequestration/capture is very expensive. A modern coal plant removes the harmful gases and particulates from the flue gas: N2, H2O, O2, NOx, SOx and fly ash. CO2 sequestration/capture has no environmental value and no economic value, other than the use of CO2 for petroleum extraction.
