Ohio Dem: ‘What Are You Going to Do with Your Big Tax Cut if You Get Ebola?’
PJ Tatler ^ | 10-7-2014 | Bridget Johnson

Posted on 10/07/2014 5:30:01 PM PDT by Sir Napsalot

An Ohio Democrat argued that “the real issue” with the Ebola crisis is “a disinvestment in the pubic health infrastructure in the United States.”

“This is a very difficult task and I find it very ironic that the very political party and politicians who are criticizing every single step, every single move that’s being made as I said by some of the best public health officials in the world are the same people that voted to cut, you know, over $500 million from the Centers for Disease Control budget over the last four or five years, over $440 million from the National Institutes of Health that could be doing potential research on these kinds of issues to help solve these problems, you know, the CDC is about a billion dollars less in preparedness money than they had, I think back in 2002,” Rep. Tim Ryan (D-Ohio) told MSNBC on Monday.

“So these folks who are lobbing these criticisms at the administration and at the CDC, they’re the very ones that cut the budget.”

(snip)

“We’ve got to rebuild our public health infrastructure here in the United States and it’s not as easy as saying, OK, planes can’t come in from Africa into the United States so we’ll just, you know, maybe build another wall and hope that that fixes the problem and it seems these simple solutions don`t work,” he added.

(snip)

“You know, what are you going to do with your big tax cut if you’re in the top 1 percent if you get Ebola? You know?”

Ryan said “it’d be nice” if the GOP would “support the president for a major global public health initiative.”

Not this cr@p again. Dem Congressman: Ebola Outbreak Exposes GOP Spending Cuts

For those interested, Wretchard at Belmont Club has a new article up, Paradigm Shift, I find the discussion of the host and BClubers there almost always three steps ahead of the curve.

What are you going to do when you get Ebola and your insurance has dropped you because of Obamacare?

Q: What Are You Going to Do with Your Big Tax Cut if You Get Ebola?

A: Buy a fancier casket? Maybe a bugle blowing angel as a grave marker?
It will be inscribed... If only Obama had stopped air flights originating in Africa!

From your link:

Whether this turns out good or bad it is a long way from passive “shelter in place”. The current PC paradigm has by no means collapsed. But it’s in trouble; and the cracks in it are beginning to appear. What is still uncertain is what will replace it when it falls apart. In his 1962 article on the structure of scientific revolutions, Thomas Kuhn identified 5 steps in the lifecycle of an idea. This is how Kuhn thought things went.

1. The pre-paradigm phase in which there is no dominant idea;
2. The normal period, ‘in which puzzles are solved within the context of the dominant paradigm’.
3. Crisis, in which there are problems which the dominant paradigm cannot even begin to think about.
4. Revolution, when the ‘underlying assumptions of the field are reexamined and a new paradigm is established.”
5. Post-revolution when the new theory becomes the dominant theory.

If Kuhn’s model is right, this generation of Western leaders may be close to the end of their line. John Podhoretz recently examined on the curious intellectual sterility of the Obama administration. “With almost six years of the Obama administration under our collective belts, the time has come to acknowledge a painful truth: This is an astoundingly idea-free presidency.”

But Obama’s not without ideas. He’s full of ideas, all of them out of date. All of them from the last century’s paradigms. He wanted to become like European social democracy at the very moment when it finally collapsed into the dust-bin of history. He hankered after the ideals of ‘progressivism’ when it had already become reactionary. He is like a man who has saved all his life to buy a pair of bell-bottomed pants only to reach the required sum just when they were 40 years out of style. He’s at the store looking to buy them and can’t find them on the rack.

But time waits for no one. The future, whatever it may be, is already upon us. Maybe bell bottoms will come back in fashion, but maybe not. All we have is what lies before us and we should take our cue, in this uncertain hour, from Alan Quatermain on the edge of the unknown.

What’s wrong with cutting the budget of the CDC. Hardly need them if we just disallow any travelers from the affected countries

How would we know that it doesn't work when we haven't even tried? I'm pretty sure that quarantining affected countries/areas would be quite helpful as would prophylactic prohibitions on general travel to and from affected areas. If prophylactic barriers don't prevent the spread of infections, you might as well go have unprotected sex with multiple HIV infected partners and not bother cleaning skin lacerations and abrasions. Prophylactic barriers do work.

A question for Mr Ryan.Where do you think you will be able to hide when people start getting ebola? You damn socialists/Democrats have dropped the ball on controlling this disease and it’s all on you.Expect to be hunted like animals when large numbers of Americans get sick.

Slightly off topic but - can the airlines just decide to stop flying to certain countries? If so, why wouldn’t they stop these flights?

>Liberalism IS a mental disorder.
Liberalism IS a time and space disorder

No idea they have will stand the test of time. All of their schemes fail eventually:
a) they run out of other peoples money
b)the people figure out that government is the problem not the solution.
C)the government needs to take territory from someone else to continue the ponzi scheme.
