Obama’s Desperate Climate Change Plan

The New York Times has a splashy front page article today that’s sure to warm the hearts of global warming fanatic. It likely will cause opponents of so-called climate change to burn with the rage of a thousand suns. In fact, we should not get excited at all. President Obama is working on a non-binding international agreement on climate change. It would “name and shame” countries that don’t comply with its strict standards. Those pushing this agreement believe it has “legal and political magic.” In reality, it won’t be worth the paper it’s written on.

Obama cannot get a climate change treaty through the Senate. All treaties need to be approved of by 2/3 of the Senate, 67 Senators in total. The overwhelming majority of Republicans will oppose a treaty out of hand. More than a few Democrats will too, especially those from states that produce a lot of coal. The 90’s Kyoto treaty was dead on arrival in the Senate regardless of which party was in control. Likewise any climate change treaty Obama signs won’t even get a vote in the Senate as it will have no chance of getting 67 votes for ratification.

It is because Obama can’t get the Senate to ratify a treaty that he’s going to create and sign onto a non-binding resolution. The climate change leftists are all a twitter over the idea of naming and shaming nations that don’t follow through on these standards. Does anyone really believe China will care if they’re shamed by a bunch of climate change activists in the west? For that matter, does anyone really believe a Republican President will be shamed by such people? Obama is limited by the laws already passed by Congress. His ability to impose tougher regulations will as such be limited. Furthermore, the Supreme Court hasn’t gone along with the President’s expansion of regulatory power recently and that throws another monkey wrench into the President’s plans.

This grand resolution and the leaking of it is nothing more than a political stunt. Obama must be very concerned about losing the Senate to the Republicans. The Democrats must have internal polling which shows Democrat voters are not excited about the upcoming election and likely even less so about Obama. They must be sufficiently concerned, otherwise they wouldn’t try to excite their base with this sort of leak. The White House has to know how utterly meaningless negotiations on a non-binding international resolution are. That won’t stop leftists from getting excited about “legal and political magic” no matter that the wizard behind the curtain has no power.

For those of us on the right we ought not get overly concerned about this meaningless nonsense. If anything we should chuckle at these leftists as they get themselves worked up and excited over something that will eventually fall flat. Obama isn’t doing anything new here, he’s just getting pats on the back from international leftists. While the President is fooling his base with a non-binding resolution, we conservatives ought to focus on the economy, Obamacare and illegal immigration. Perhaps we could focus on various Obama administration scandals, such as recent turns in the IRS scandal. The administration lied about the destruction of Lois Learner’s emails. Surely these are more important matters than non-binding resolutions.

Another attack on American sovereignty by the Obama regime.

Obama knows how to make some cheap points with the far left here, as the left loves symbolism and will substitute it for reality with glee.

Let them have their symbolism. That little sugar rush won’t last long.

Meanwhile, reality continues and we have much bigger fish to fry.

Well, I do think its very unhealthy to allow the idea to exist that its even possible for a president to behave in this manner.

I think a very strong public rebuke delivered by a judge or the senate minority leader would proved the country with a much need education concerning the constitutional limits of executive power.

Alas I do not believe the turtle is up to it.

It is possible that ObaMao is confident enough of his election fraud machine that he simply doesn’t care.

It is also possible that Valerie will be declaring martial law, so the election won’t even take place.

I tried to reason with a liberal the other day... I know, might as well reason with my cat, but...

since every one of these crises always seems to have the same “solution” of reduced lifestyle for Americans, reduced liberty for Americans, and increased government control over our lives,

doesn’t it stand to reason that these “solutions” are the actual agenda and all the “crises” are simply excuses to implement them?

The President could sign a treaty that would then not be ratified by the Senate. I’m not sure what he’s doing is any different than what Presidents have historically done except he isn’t bothering with the signing of a treaty. Negotiating a non-binding resolution in the UN won’t be legally worth the paper it’s written on. Everyone knows it except for starry eyed leftist fanatics.
