Americans Killed by Cops [in ten years] Now Outnumber Americans Killed in Iraq War
The Free Thought Project ^ | August 7, 2014 | Matt Savoy

The increase in police brutality in this country is a frightening reality. In the last decade alone the number of people murdered by police has reached 5,000. The number of soldiers killed since the inception of the Iraq war, 4489.

What went wrong? In the 19070’s SWAT teams were estimated to be used just a few hundred times per year, now we are looking at over 40,000 military style “knock and announce” police raids a year.

The police presence in this country is being turned into a military with a clearly defined enemy, anyone who questions the establishment.

If we look at the most recent numbers of non-military US citizens killed by terrorism worldwide, that number is 17. You have a better chance of being killed by a bee sting, or a home repair accident than you do a terrorist. And you are 29 times more likely to be murdered by a cop than a terrorist!

A hard hitting mini film by film maker Charles Shaw, properly titled RELEASE US, highlights the riveting and horrid reality of America’s thin blue line.

From the film:

500 innocent Americans are murdered by police every year (USDOJ). 5,000 since 9/11, equal to the number of US soldiers lost in Iraq.

In 1994 the US Government passed a law authorizing the Pentagon to donate surplus Cold War era military equipment to local police departments.

In the 20 years since, weaponry designed for use on a foreign battlefield, has been handed over for use on American streets…against American citizens.

The “War on Drugs” and the “War on Terror” replaced the Cold War with billions in funding and dozens of laws geared towards this new “war” against its own citizens.

This militarization of the police force has created what is being called an “epidemic of police brutality” sweeping the nation.

the number of innocent citizens murdered by cops each year far outweighs cops killed on the job.

maybe we should start considering this every damn time they want to make a huge deal about cops killed each year.

these are innocent people murdered by armed trained “expert” agents of the state. who has their backs? who speaks up for them?

done with effing cops.

There was a time when the police were willing to put themselves in harms way to serve and protect citizens.

Now its all about the police officer’s safety coming first.

Kill the dog, the kid with an air gun, whatever, instead of risking themselves to first assess the truth of the situation before using deadly force.

I blame the unions, lawyers and the war on drugs for the majority of this attitude.

That’s great news, as it is both evidence of the police doing a great job in keeping us safe, and evidence that GWB, as Commander In Chief, did a great job of limiting casualties in his execution of the Iraq war.

Good job police!

Good job GWB!

(... and I can’t wait to use this line on some lib if this topic comes up)!

The article falls short of indicating how many of those deaths were justified, i.e. criminals, versus how many were innocent US citizens.

Thanks for the correction. I read the article too quickly the first time and missed the ‘500 innocent’ bit.

I don't. I blame human nature, combined with the utter moral and cultural collapse of the United States. Murderous tyrants in armored vehicles throwing grenades into homes and shooting pets in front of children is exactly what the People have asked for and they are getting it in spades.

Shrug. Karma is a bitch. While I have sympathy and anger for those individuals impacted by our domestic paramilitary legions I have no sympathy for the nation as a whole. It is getting what it wanted.

The once higher standards to become and get hired to be a police officer has dropped dramatically.

Most started requiring 2 to 4 yrs of college - having an actual degree. The WV State Police has a system in place that when their cadet troopers go through the academy - they attend college classes and are awarded a AS in Police Science from Marshall University...they place educational theory and practical application together...so at least their troopers can launch into a 4 yr program later and continue to develop their educational background while they serve.

Other departments, dropped the 2 to 4 yr college degree requirement and have lowered it to just a basic HS or GED degree to fill in the low numbers of those actually applying that were college educated - but seeking other higher paying work.

The result, those that couldn’t get in - or those that could pass the entry exam - PT test (if there is one) - and interviews...some have polygraphs - and some don’t...but those that do - most applicants haven’t done anything in their lives - no experience...and when faced with adversity - no skills on how to handle the complex nature of various cultures and situations - which equal - the reliance on a firearm.

This is occurring all over the US...check the websites of the police departments and state police to see who requires more or less...it’s scary!

You missed the Lord of the Flies educational system that starts at birth now. I see more and more these young guys who don't know how to be men because they have not been around men. Then they think being a cop will make them manly. Problem! Being raised by hormonal Lesbian “parents” or hormonal girly men or single mommies who send you to day care at 7 weeks of age.

Then these total freaking loons running the schools. I mean really, what do we expect? Shooting dogs in their own yards for doing their job, which is by the way to let the owner of the damn house that someone is possibly going to do them harm.

MORE ANDY TAYLOR LESS SUDOMACHO MORONS. I do corporate security so I have seen lots of this. If they are a former cop I don't want them. They can not think. They just react and lash out.

I swear young men today remind me of teenage girls back when I was a kid. I am just astounded. It has to be by design.
