Democrat Tammy Duckworth Falsely Attributes Ben Carson Quote to Opponent

Tammy Duckworth

In a prime example of the negative politics employed by the modern Democratic Party, an apparently misread Facebook post led to an amateurish and inflammatory attack against a Republican Party hopeful. US Representative Tammy Duckworth (D-Illinois) accused her opponent of attacking the African America community, attributing a Ben Carson quote that was posted on GOP challenger Lawrence Kaifesh's Facebook campaign page. On her own Facebook page, Rep. Duckworth lambasted Kaifesh for his alleged comments "claiming African-Americans are dependent on government." Although favored, Rep. Duckworth is engaged in a surprisingly competitive race with Kaifesh for Illinois 8th Congressional district, which covers the northern suburbs of Chicago.

In keeping with a consistent tactic of liberal-Progressives in the current political cycle, Rep. Duckworth hinted at racism as she derided his line of thinking, calling it "offensive and wrong" and as such is not a human being fit to "serve as a Member of Congress." Aside from the fact that her comment is it itself divisive and stifles intellectual debate on a subject that should be of paramount importance to all Americans and especially our representatives in Congress, but it is altogether laughable as the actual comment she attacked was made by Dr. Ben Carson, a prominent conservative and he himself African-American. The post that caused Duckworth's attack are shown in the following image:

Although it is possible that Rep. Duckworth is unaware that people in the era of the New Media often will post quotes made by other individuals that speak to their feelings on the important issues of our day, the error was in the very least an embarrassment and a sign of a potential lack of focus and clarity. At worst it is a shameless and opportunistic attempt to falsely paint her Republican opponent as bigoted and thus attack his political motives, rather than his ideas and methods at addressing the issues facing America today.

It is the democratic spirit of our American republic to present a variety of opinions, views and solutions to solving the problems that plague our citizenry. That is the entire point of a political campaign. That a representative of the people and a member of the US Congress would falsely attribute a quote by an African-American political leader as an attack on the African-American community is shameful and demands an apology.

In addition to an owed apology to Mr. Kaifesh and Dr. Carson, it would also seem just to extend an apology to her constituents, in particular the African-American community for using false accusations to deny the voters an opportunity to hear a lively intellectual exchange and debate, the sort of which is a bedrock of our democracy.

The past few years have seen a steady, albeit slow, shift of political winds in the black community. While still considered a solid Democratic Party voting bloc, African Americans have sent signals to leaders on both political sides of the aisle that the black vote should neither be counted in or taken for granted. In April of this year, Reverend James T. Meeks of the 15,000 member strong Salem Baptist Church made headlines by endorsing Republican businessman Bruce Rauner, in his attempt to unseat incumbent Illinois Governor Pat Quinn.

In citing the poverty and gun violence that plagues much of Chicago, Meeks stated, "Our schools are still broken and getting worse. We’re last in employment or business. And we still get the same promises from the Democratic party, but we don’t get any deliverable.” Democrats have also seen a drop in support among young males, as President Barack Obama received 94% of black male voters age 18-29 in 2008 but only 80% of this same group in his 2012 reelection victory against Mitt Romney, who received 19% compared to six percent John McCain received four years earlier.

In prior decades the Republican Party has been rightfully reproached for largely ignoring the African-American vote and acquiescing black American votes, and the political control of their communities, to the Democratic Party. Over the past 50 years Democrats have maintained a virtual monopoly in black neighborhoods and as such nearly all elected officials in predominately black and Hispanic neighborhoods are members of the Democratic Party. Republicans have sought to right that wrong with increased attention to issues facing urban and minority neighborhoods. Republicans across the country are becoming more active in efforts to increase charter schools and school choice programs in poorer school districts, an intense focus on inner-city job creation and bringing attention to the negative consequences of welfare policies on family stability have energized a debate that for decades seemed to remain stagnant and relied on simply increasing the scope (and demand) of Great Society programs conceived a half century ago. Having little tangible success to show for a half century of Democratic Party led policy initiatives, liberal Progressives have often resorted to rhetorical attacks and hinted at GOP racism.

Conservatives applaud Dr. Carson's thoughtful words and the subject and give a tip of the hat (and a Facebook "like") to GOP challenger Lawrence Kaifesh for his appreciation of it. Democratic incumbent Rep. Tammy Duckworth, however, should certainly have displayed more circumspection and professionalism in responding to her opponents views. In falsely attributing Ben Carson's quote to her GOP opponent, Democrat Tammy Duckworth has lowered us all by subjecting the public to a nasty and divisive form of "Chicago" politics. Lawrence Kaifesh, Dr. Ben Carson, the American people, and above all the voters of Chicago deserve an apology. Representative Duckworth may be reached on her US House of Representatives website.

Why not just post from the sites where things took place?

What was gained by involving your blog?

You freely admit that you stole the material, why advertise the place where you want hits for it?

Oh, wait.. the hits.

Yeah, you gotta get them hits.

what exactly is your hard on for us? Check the web buddy, I believe we broke this one.

Apparently you didnt even read, because I got the list of the Soros-funded company that apparently pays you to go out and attack conservative sites. This was taken from two separate Facebook posts of the candidates and to my my knowledge has not been reported elsewhere.

"Us"? Or you? Isn't this all your own "writing"?

Check the web buddy, I believe we broke this one.

So if I can find it on the web.. you didn't "break" it.

This was taken from two separate Facebook posts of the candidates and to my my knowledge has not been reported elsewhere.

Yeah.. other than those Facebook posts that you admit to stealing.

Odd, I don't see them listed among "sources" upthread.

I got the list of the Soros-funded company that apparently pays you to go out and attack conservative sites

Almost $770.00 dollars a week and you're still a thieving blogpimp.

there is absolutely no way you are a real conservative. There is just no way. I see plenty of trolls out there muckraking in conservative politics with non-sense such as this. Yes, we have a small but growing number of writers.

And if you had any concept of how information and news works and flows, it is about picking up on information, verifying it, checking it and putting a story together. Something that given the vast amount of time you spend on forums such as this, you could and should rightfully do yourself.

Ahh, but then you would have to be public and genuine in what you post online now, wouldnt you...and there is the rub.

Again, if you disagree with something written, by all means you should challenge it with your own viewpoints, that is what it is all about. Which is why there is no way you are genuinely conservative...thats simply not how we do things. Your tactics have progressive-left written all over them, despite what you cover you may present.

Yep. I'm a communist queer. You should report me.

I see plenty of trolls out there muckraking in conservative politics with non-sense such as this

I didn't characterize your thread as such. That was you.

And if you had any concept of how information and news works and flows, it is about picking up on information, verifying it, checking it and putting a story together.

Putting it together from other sources? Stealing, basically?

Something that given the vast amount of time you spend on forums such as this, you could and should rightfully do yourself.

You're the one putting together threads, Skippy. I figure that takes more time than anything I do.

Which is why there is no way you are genuinely conservative...thats simply not how we do things.

Indeed. Posting crap from your blog is the must awesomest conservative thing ever.

Especially since you just admitted that you stole the content.

Which tactics?

Pointing out that you steal material to put on your blog?

Only mean liberals would point that out, huh?

Tell me about your "research staff" or your "editorial staff" for your blog.

Just you? Stealing stuff and hoping for hits?

Come on. 'Fess up...

Tell you what HG, I challenge you to find one instance of copyright infringement, cut and paste, direct link, whatever. You will not find one. And do I post to drive traffic to the site? Of course. Isnt the entire purpose of the New Media, at least as it relates to conservatism, to open up the space of ideas, to share thoughts, to devise strategy and to ultimately defeat Progressive-liberalism? I hold pretense to any “extraordinary importance” of our site, myself and the others writers who contribute to Dignitas are simply citizen journalists concerned about this country and would like to share these frustrations and solutions with others. We are but one many voices in the wind but if every now and again can reach someone and help them re-think their previously held opinions of conservatism and break a pattern of voting Democrat....and every now and again that happens....then this is our reward.

So yes, I look to increase our small readership and hits by any legitimate means available. You obviously dont know the nature of the business side of it itself, as to think any financial incentive from FR hits is laughable. To begin, none of us are pros here. These stories are often contemplated on the morning commute, researched during break, get written during lunch and edited only after the kids homework gets checked.

My problem with you, HG, is that not only are your attacks tedious and attention diverting but also based on assumption and without actual merit....much like the Duckworth story. Ill throw you one more challenge, write a story...submit it to me. If its good I will gladly and happily publish it....and promote it on FR for you.

"Ill throw you one more challenge, write a story...submit it to me. If its good I will gladly and happily publish it....and promote it on FR for you."

Next time I need a current example of hubris, I'll reference that quote.

"To begin, none of us are pros here."

Lather, Rinse, Repeat.

"We are but one many voices in the wind but if every now and again can reach someone and help them re-think their previously held opinions of conservatism and break a pattern of voting Democrat....and every now and again that happens....then this is our reward."

If you are in fact planning on writing anything you wish to be taken seriously in the future, you should acquaint yourself with the grammatical malconstruction known as "The Run-on Sentence." It's a bad thing. Well placed prepositions are good things.

(Pardon me if I seem grumpy. My check from Uncle George is late and I'm at the bottom of my stash.)
