Mysterious Things Happen To Human Organ Transplant Recipients

When a person receives a new heart do they take on the characteristics of the donor?

I remember going to the movies as a child, seeing Frankenstein the monster come to life, a mixture of different cadaver body parts. How silly? Then there was the movie of the severed hand the crawled around murdering people on it's own free will using it's fingers as legs. Is that really possible? Or the head on a platter, hooked up to tubes, alive and talking. Remember those movies?

Well, apparently there is some truth involved here. There have been some people that have received heart and other organ transplants then later, after recovery, taking on the identity of their donors. Here are a few examples:

1. An overweight man who hated to exercise, received the lungs of a young teenage olympian hopeful. A jock who was hit by a car and killed as he was running cross country on a highway, to raise money for Cancer. He was obsessed about his looks and physique, and ran 10 miles everyday to keep in shape. The organ recipient took up jogging for no reason at all and became obsessed with his physicality. He lost tons of weight to the amazement of his wife and doctors. The story goes; he ended up finishing the race that the organ donor had attempted before he had been killed.

2. A young boy was tortured and left for dead in the gutter on the side of a highway. He eventually died in the hospital but his heart was saved and donated to a little girl about the same age. The transplant was a success, she recovered and was brought home. She started to have nightmares of a man driving a blue van grabbing her and tying her up. She saw his face and remembered the licence plate that revealed itself in her nightmares. The killer put a cover over her head and that's all she could remember. It was later discovered the boy who had been murdered, was tied up in a basement and a potato sac was used to cover his head. The license plate was traced to a man that owned a blue van. The police found their man. The girls nightmares stopped.

There are all kinds of examples, how about the man who received a heart from a Sade fan. Suddenly, the heart recipient would start to cry for no reason at all, every time he heard a Sade song come on the radio.

How about the gay woman that went straight after receiving the heart of a straight woman?

Would people that eat raw meat be more savage?

It's obvious, our cells contain DNA that is all part of our personality and emotions, containing information inherited, experienced and developed.

I am saying this simply tongue in cheek. So, please, all your talmudic hair-spitting geniuses here at FR, no need to try and trump whatever it is I'm trying to say.

I assure you that once this phenomenon of people receiving transplanted organs taking on the characteristics of donors is validated and becomes becomes more widespread, all donors will end up being checked for their sexual preference. The LGBT would certainly make sure a law was passed preventing the sexual preference of any recipient being changed by organ donor process.

Actually, it is more likely that the LGBT lobby would try to make sure that preference was given to using donated material from LGBT sources if available. Only if LGBT donor material was unavailable could “straight” donor material be used.

DNA shmeeNA, these folks will imagine anything to avoid acknowledging that we humans have a spirit and soul which is only using the body it is attached to.

I really liked The Sixth Sense, but it was the only movie by that guy that was worth the price of a redbox rental.

My husband is a heart recipient, four years out. The only thing we found odd was before his transplant he didn’t care much for watermelon. After the transplant it was his favorite food, he couldn’t get enough. We assumed it had something to do with the medications.

Hmmm, is this phenomenon only true with heart transplants? I know somebody who recently received a kidney transplant. Wonder if she should be on the lookout for weirdness, too.

Could be Stem cells in the donated organs migrate to the brain and then influence expression of genes and chemicals in the brains....

Or a part of the spirit breaks away and combines with the recipient, which hold all sorts of spiritial questions...

When you die do you meet up with your old heart and lungs in heaven and do the donor organs meet up with those who donated them?

Stories sure sound like urban legends to me. But the only one you really need to be careful is using Abby Normal's brain.

Its just plumbing. If I take a part out of a Corvette and put it into an AVEO, the Aveo is not going drive faster. And clearly, it will not attract pretty girls.

Much of this stuff is anecdotal. I have not seem many “source” documents.

I guess anything is possible (look, we have a Kenyan in the White House.) I am a BIG skeptic on this stuff.

I’m assuming you are asking for real and not being snarky. Sade (prounounced Sha-day) is a singer, she’s very beautiful and glamorous looking, from Africa. I guess she is an OK singer, kind of in the smooth jazz style. I think her big hit was “smooth operator”. I could see a fellow having a big crush on her, don’t know about crying over it.

Ok, so when they start growing organs with 3D printing tech, who`s personality will they emulate?
