Does Vladimir Putin Have God on His Side Regarding Ukraine?

“In principle, Ukraine does not independently exist,” said Russian Orthodox Church leader Kirill i during a June 18 address. Ukraine is instead part of “the historical territory of Russia,” the patriarch said, according to a report by the Kiev-based Espreso tv.

Such a stance on Ukraine mirrors that of Russian President Vladimir Putin. In 2005, Mr. Putin said the demise of the Soviet Union was “the greatest geopolitical catastrophe of the [20th] century.” Ever since, his prime objective has been the rebuilding of Russia’s influence in its former Soviet periphery—especially in Ukraine.

Although Putin never tried to hide what he calls “his deep Christian faith,” he did avoid overtly religious displays and rhetoric up until around 2012. That year, after tens of thousands of mostly-liberal Russians protested his return to presidency, Putin responded by leaning on the Russian Orthodox Church’s conservative appeal.

What has become clear to me when watching politics in this country, especially in the last year, is that God is not taking sides. He knows all that has been and all that will be. In the end, His justice is the final arbiter. Those who are not His, will burn.

Sorry Kiril Ist. Ukraine under Prince Vladimir was Christianized by the Byzantines long before Russia even got organized under a Tsar. The Kievan Rus did very well until the Tartar invasion.

By the way, that is St. Mikhail in independence square in Kiev, protector of Ukraine.

Does Vladimir Putin Have God on His Side Regarding Ukraine?

Yes - because God came to me Monday afternoon, with a innumerable chorus of angels and said to me: "Please remember, what ever Putin does in Ukraine is totally cool by me. Belarus or Poland? Well, I'm not sure yet, but let's cross that bridge when we come to it. but Ukraine? No worries - Vlad's got the juice!"

And now I am telling you.

I don’t know.
Let’s look at it this way:

Russia is anti-homosexual.
Russia bans abortions.
Russia’s star is rising.

America is pro-homosexual.
America promotes abortion.
America’s star is setting...............

All I would say is that God is not as likely to be automatically opposed to Putin as He was to the former Soviet Union. He might, for example, have given them a pass on Crimea. Anything beyond that, doubtful. Putin remains on thin ice despite the one sensible policy he has pursued, namely the caution on a globalist agenda in general (the anti-gay business is probably more a subtext of that, than any real opposition to homosexuality).

On our side, we need to concentrate MIGHTILY on getting back into God’s good graces, and not worry about whether God is now backing our former enemies. But the real Opponent remains Islam. If we all realize this, there is room for us to make alliances with Putin and even with China. This world can settle all differences except true versus false religion, that has to be settled first.

Alternatively,

America uses anti-religion to promote its political agenda.
Russia uses religion to promote its political agenda.
Both stars are setting at the same rate.

It’s pretty clear Obama has enlisted “other” help, and I haven’t seen any signs that Puttin has solicited God’s help either...

The question was it a Ukraine at the time?
Ukraine was NEVER a nation until a brief period in earlier 1920s, and since 1992 another time.
It is not if I’m talking about we have to fix it, but it is a fact of life.

The official Russian Orthodox Church site has no words that the Ukrainian source presented as by the Patriarch. Unfortunately, there is no English version.

Here is the main point of the address from June, 17: "I address those who are in position to decide - stop the bloodshed at once, start real negotiations to establish peace and justice. Being a winner in a civil war isn't possible, and no political gain is worth more than people's lives.

[...] I urge all the faithful of the Church to do their prayers harder, and to adhere strictly to the Saint Apostles fast which has recently started."
