Bergdahl has his own platoon of psych handlers in the PRCC at BAMC. They have been rehearsing for Bergdahl specifically, since he deserted.
This might not be such a bad idea. They could have handled it worse.

Since he deserted under wartime conditions why can’t he be lined up against a wall and shot? I know we haven’t done so in some time but his desertion seems particularly egregious since several of his comrades were killed searching for him.
Why not carve his likeness into Mt. Rushmore?

We the public will probably never know the real story or storyline. Nowadays, there are surgical means to help remove memory from certain parts of the brain. The Military can breakdown and recreate Bowe’s psyche as they wish him to be presented. All the psychiatrists, pharmacists and therapists will be in on the creation and maintenance of this preferred reality, whatever that ends up being. I’m rather certain the Army has already decided what his fate will be in the service. Now the stage must be set, and all characters actors must rehearse their lines while staying in character. They can create a scenario that portrays him as an immediate threat, one that has to be eliminated then and there. He could be portrayed as a more sympathetic (to libs) figure, like Bradley Manning. They may try to use him to win or influence upcoming elections. So while years back, Bowe was caught staring in the camera reading the prepared Taliban script (that he helped to write), the next two years may show Bowe parroting new talking points as written by the Obama Administration.
“Just help us out a little bit here, then you’ll be discharged without conditions. Why, you would even be free to go back to your Afghan wife and children in that country. Just make sure you never remove that black ankle braclet with the radio chip. All this happiness can be yours just for a little favor from you.” You are dismissed, soldier!
