I’ve worked with some fantastic Soldiers who were all tatted up and some dirtbags who had no tattoos and vice versa. This insane idea around here that tattoos, regardless of the number or location or type, automatically equals circus freak or gangbanger is absolutely mind-boggling and more than a little obnoxious. They want to have their opinions taken seriously yet they’re as judgmental as the most insane liberal over the shallowest things? These people need to buy a clue.
“ancient Jews had a proscription against “
Who you calling “ancient,” Miss?
In seriousness, the negative mitzvah regarding tattoos has not changed.
There was on guy a couple days back on the Brit/breast cancer thread arguing that cosmetic dentistry was wrong because it altered what god made or something to that effect.
Of course he also said people who got boob jobs deserved cancer so our anti-tat friend here in in rare company.
Sorry about that! Surely, Reform Jews don’t care about it? On the other hand, now that I think about it, I have no Jewish friends with tattoos...
Tattoo’ed people remind me a little of Joan Rivers - they do not see what they look like when they look in a mirror. They have lost the ability to see themselves as others see them.
I also think tattoo’ed people on FR are angry people. About six months ago, when I commented on religious proscriptions against tattoos, one freeper tried to have me banned. She was a mod and disappeared my comments without the usual “removed by moderator” line. I had to privately go to Jim Robinson to get out of this mess. He apparently intervened to which I am eternally grateful.
Deformed, er, Reform Jews don’t care about a lot of the Torah.
But if you want to be buried in a Conservative or Orthodox cemetery, you better not have a voluntary tattoo.
People can do whatever they want. I don’t mind tattoos on others because it’s usually a giveaway that they’re some unstable counterculture trash and I’m glad they reveal it so I can avoid them at a distance.
However, on some people they look correct and don’t particularly mean something bad. Those kind of people are fairly unusual though: Old craggy and leathery US Navy CPOs who are rail thin and smoke long thin brown Tiparillos with the plastic tip (actually, they might all be retired and dead these days, or the factory they all seemed to come from stopped producing that model) or friendly ethnic Polynesians you meet in Hawaii working the Hertz rental counter at Kona airport. They’re cool.
Most other people with tattoos look low class. I can’t even tell you how many appallingly awful tattoos I saw in the ‘Corps where I had to tell the guy showing it off “Yeahhh... That’s awesome, man.” while lying through my teeth.
Probably only the most conservative Catholics are against tattoos.
That guy finally killed himself recently, if you weren’t aware.
Didn't know. Pointless to speculate why, but one can't help wondering if the self inflicted deformaties were a symptom of underlying mental instability.
Tattoos serve a very useful purpose. They identify people with whom there is no point in communicating. Every time you post you reenforce my point.
Saw a graphic on Facebook this morning.
A woman said she did not have tattoos for the same reason you don’t see bumper stickers on a Ferrari.
Ha! Did you ever notice that most bumper stickers are on lib cars?!
Ha! Did you ever notice that most bumper stickers are on lib cars?!
Sure that’s what holds them together.
Good one! Libs literally plaster their cars with slogans.
I saw the same thing only it was a lip piercing.
