Politics matter even on the Senior dating scene
Coach is Right ^ | 4/10/14 | Suzanne Eovaldi

Tentatively I accepted the call to enter the senior dating game, and at age 78, I accepted the invitation of a very nice, clean cut, 80s something gentleman to be his passenger on a trip to a goat farm. He, in ranking order, was from the Midwest, as opposed to “the East;” was single by death of his beloved wife of 60 years, rather than being a traveler of a divorced nature; and we both liked the activities of the Slow Food movement here in Florida.

You see, we met at the first stop on the farm-to-fork tour of sustainable organic farms and small, well tended vegetable gardens, one of which also housed the local nudist camp. Of course, entering for the tours, guests were led specifically along lanes where campers were clothed during the tour. Our next stop...

I’ll be without a man the rest of my life before I’ll date a liberal, or someone from the city-not gonna do it, wouldn’t be prudent...

In my single years between marriages one very nice lady asked me my views on abortion. I said I considered it the wrongful taking of an innocent life, thus …….murder. Last date. Oh, just as well!

There is nothing wrong with a Co-exist bumper sticker.

I feel the same way. No way a liberal, tree-hugging man child will be touching me. It’s disgusting to imagine someone with no moral compass getting near me. I might catch something penicillin can’t get rid of.

Dating? At my age? Well, if my wife goes first, I just don’t have that kind of energy.

I’ve known two men married to liberals. They handled it the same way. They never discuss politics at home. They endure their in-laws. They are often not comfortable at home but resolutely keep their mouths shut. I gather the restraint goes only one way. Their wives get a lot of “yes dear.”

Well, I do live a natural lifestyle-no processed food, drugs of any sort, etc-I’m into conserving natural resources, and I work as a subcontractor. I was raised that way-and I intend to build an off-grid cabin-most of the men I’ve met can’t stand that I don’t need my little hand held, and some think I’m a dyke. I’m convinced there are no single, conservative/libertarian men out there...

Well, you missed me. I wandered around Texas as a single guy for 34 years. Met a lot of left-wing women. Finally found a great conservative lady. One of our first outings was the Tea Party rally at the Alamo on tax day, 2009. Got married two years ago.

After my divorce from my 1st husband, I dated a liberal attorney-he was mostly nice, witty-but he was a gun control freak-in Texas! I invited my best-friend-since-college and her husband to dinner at my house, and asked the lawyer, too.

I’d barely put food on the table and poured the wine when the idiot launched into a gun control rant. My friend’s husband, a business owner and firearms enthusiast sat patiently for 10-15 minutes, while I was glaring at the fool of a lawyer-then he put down his fork, leaned forward and said calmly “you are one communist sonofabitch, aren’t you”?

My friend called her husband down, I let out a shout of laughter, and lawyer demanded an apology. I said that no one is about to apologize for telling the truth in my house. He left in a huff, and that was the end of the relationship. Never went out with a liberal again, and the following year I married MrT5, an emerging conservative...

Glad you are in a good place with your life-I was still married to MrT5 in 2009-he died late that year.

I gave up looking for someone to spend time with after taking an ever so brief dip into the single pool of available men. Just couldn’t find anyone who put God first in their life, was a true Conservative and would accept that my grandsons would be an important part of my life.
