With Eastern Europe in turmoil over Putin's land grab in the Crimea and Iraq voting to legalize rape within marriage, one news story has been trumpeted nonstop. Ever since the plane disappeared, Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 has dominated the news coverage and has sent the media into a frenzy. Speculation has run rampant over the fate of the plane and the 239 people on board, and conspiracy theories have abounded. Whether you believe one scenario or the other, it is most likely that the passengers are deceased.
With all the chaos going on in the world, why the media frenzy over Malaysia Airlines Flight 370? You can't open a newspaper, turn on the tv, or listen to the radio without every reporter endlessly talking about the missing plane. One would think that while the situation is tragic, there are other vital issues that should be reported on but are not. It seems the entire world focus is on the Indian Ocean and the ongoing search. Yet I can understand why there is so much media attention on this story.
First, people are stunned when something actually disappears and cannot be found. We have the mistaken belief that everyone and everything is monitored at all times. People have become so used to GPS, Google Earth, and a million other applications, that they find it hard to process "we don't know where it went!" We've become accustomed to immediate answers, so each day that passes just amps up the story's luster. Another facet that the media finds intriguing is the pathetic excuses given by Malaysia Airlines and the country of Malaysia. It took days for them to seek help from other countries. Dragging your feet when a plane turns off its transponder and disappears from radar means that most people will think you have something to hide. This something could be insidious or just plain incompetence.
As for what happened to Flight 370, we still don't know. People argue that the pilot was suicidal (yet there's no suicide note of any kind), that the plane caught fire and crashed (yet no calls for help) or that the plane was taken to another country to be used by terrorists as a bomb. In the latter scenario, plenty of terrorist groups and anti-Western countries have the means to load a plane up with nuclear material and explosives to create their own nuclear bomb with the Boeing 777 used as the delivery device. Throw in a couple of passengers with forged passports and you have endless speculation.
As I hate to put a political spin on the missing plane, I do think another reason why networks such as CNN are spending 24/7 on this story is to take the focus off of Obama and his failed policies. We've just had Obama schooled by Putin in Ukraine that highlights his weakness on the international stage, and we have the deadline fast approaching for ObamaCare signups, which have been a major debacle. Just like many times in the past when Obama gets in trouble, the media works overtime to pull out a shiny object and distract the American public. It's always worked before, so why not use it again?
The sad fact is that we don't know for certain what has happened. Instead of waiting to see what new facts can be uncovered, the media spends its time feverishly throwing out what-if scenarios and conjecture. All I can say is that prayers go out to those poor souls on Flight 370 and their families.
CNN’s coverage has nothing to do with diverting attention from Obama, they’ve been getting hammered in the ratings for years and now their strategy is to focus on sensational stories like this. And it’s working - their ratings are double this week what they have been. If they were smarter, they’d be doing a lot of other things to improve their product, but this is about ratings, which equal money and continued employment.
The fate of Flight 370 is a convenient distraction from consideration of the future of the world which is being defined in the Ukraine. Let’s everyone obsess on unending repetitious speculation as to what happened to one airplane. Insanity.
Sorry bout 230+ people but, what about the magic trick the lame stream media is pulling?
They have gone David Copperfield and made the peoples of the Ukraine and Crimea invisible.
Sorry but ratings does not overcome ideology which is why they remain in the dump as to ratings... They will not change, it is ingrained. That is a good thing if anyone wants to break into the news business or even into the movie business - they have locked themselves into an area that they can NOT get out of...
It has been a long time since the conspiracy fanatics have had anything to grab a hold of ... give them their moment in the sun.
I hate to say it, but an unstructured big story like this was made for the way CNN has been covering it.
Fox has in my opinion dropped the ball on this story.
Usually that are on top of things, but they totally blew this. I have been watching CNN for the first time in years.
It’s a intriguing story and so it captures people’s attention.
But ... I doubt this mystery will ever be solved. The plane will never be found.

Me too! Haven't turned to CNN since 1999. They're doing a great job.
I suspect the US already knows exactly where it is and its condition is good enough for them to believe the passengers are may be still alive if they were not murdered sometime during the flight or after it got to the ground.
Maybe it’s better they’re focusing on the plane, instead of stories claiming Ocare sign-ups are great, or whatever other nonsense they usually broadcast.

Where do we remember “Media Frenzy” from?
For me the most worrisome recent claim was that the young co-pilot saying, “Thank you, good night” AFTER their weird turn:
That suggests the pair of them together might be in on it, since the older pilot’s family left him the day before.
If true, then these two things together are worrisome.
We LOVE analyzing such things, so the popularity of this story HERE doesn’t surprise me at all.
Why does the *MSM* love it?
Cuz it probably has NOTHING to do with Obama:
This way Obamacare can screech and pancake into the dustbin of history, and people won’t be watching.
Also all of Russia can laugh their heads off as sanctions are imposed on all of SEVEN people in Russia, and people won’t notice as much.
This story is basically functioning as a really huge STORM with lots of cool visuals.
Except that it’s a much more legitimate story.

The media frenzy over this is understandable because it is hard to believe that with all these nations and all this money spent on electronics a plane can just disappear and so many people be clueless.
However in 18 days the blackbox will quit pinging and the search will be called off and Flight MH370 will officially enter the Conspiracy Zone of legend and lore never to be forgotten again.
