Feel that? Something historic and important just happened. It might even be a teachable moment, and its certainly therapeutic. Why, liberals will be able to like their country just little bit more. Come on people, feel the love!
A potential fourth round NFL draft pick has declared is own truth, and come out as gay. Having taken the courageous step of joining societys most trendy and celebrated grievance group, Missouri defensive end Michael Sam is now basking in the media adulation.
ESPNs Chris Connelly stressed to Sam, You could become the first openly gay player in the NFL, thats a momentous thing. And Connelly sounded momentous just saying it. To Sams contention thats hes a football player, Connelly, corrected him: Youre a football player responsible for a landmark moment within American sports right now.
One Jeff Pearlman gently approached the issue in a Sports Illustrated blog post cleverly titled, I want Tim Tebow to Fail. He wanted him to fail because a famous Tim Tebow is a dangerous Tim Tebow. Tebow, you see, scares me, and judging from his fathers website, his upcoming Super Bowl ad and mounting knowledge of his way of life he should scare you, too.

A lot of people may not have thought about a couple things, 'cause the media is gonna turn this guy -- whether he wants to be one or not, they're gonna turn him -- into an activist. He is going to become one. They're already calling him things. He's the Rosa Parks, he's the Martin Luther King, he's the Jackie Robinson. They're gonna turn this guy into an activist. I already saw a story praising an unnamed team for drafting him -- even if he can't play, for drafting him -- just to make the social statement.

I think the guy is trying to blackmail the NFL into putting him on a roster. Sure, he got SEC honors, but my understanding is he’s a bit undersized for the position as it’s played on NFL lines.
teams supposedly don’t want Tebow because he’s ‘controversial’ and ‘divisive’
unlike the fag
I won’t be watching any more NFL games. they obviously don’t want Christians watching their games. ok by me.
enjoy the alternative play style
as a columnist for SI.com. No stranger to controversy, Pearlman used his own website as a forum to call out the overzealous missionary goals of Tim Tebow’s father as “pretty evil”
Pearlman was born and raised in Mahopac, New York. He got his start in journalism in 1989, when he interned at a weekly newspaper in Cross River, entitled “The Patent Trader”. After graduating from the University of Delaware, he was hired as a food and fashion writer by The Tennessean in Nashville. In 1996, Pearlman was hired by Sports Illustrated, where he spent nearly seven years as a baseball writer.
In 2002, Pearlman left Sports Illustrated and spent the next two years at Newsday, but left to focus on writing books. He also keeps an unusually personal online blog, where he has written about such intimate issues as seeing a rival book get publicity in Sports Illustrated, where he worked or finding blood in his feces after using the toilet.

I can see one parallel between Tebow and Sam right off the bat. If Sam is drafted in the second or third round or lower, or if he doesn’t make it as an NFL player, then I predict people will say it’s because he’s being blackballed for being gay and not because of he lacks the talent to play at the NFL level.
He's a third rounder at best.
5.56mm
Tebow had the talent and was drawing the fans.
But way to compare Christian America with the homosexuals, and conservative concerns with lefty concerns.
Both were projected to go in the 3rd round. Let’s see if anybody mortgages their future to reach for Sam in the 1st. If they don’t the whole comparison falls apart.
They don’t want Tebow because he can’t complete passes but has this cult follows him around insisting he’s the best ever and should start. The “controversy” referred to is the QB controversy of having the fans want a different starter than the coach which is bad for a team. Sam’s not a QB, none of that will apply.
No he didn't.
But way to compare Christian America with the homosexuals, and conservative concerns with lefty concerns.
LOL. Actually I'm comparing Tebow supporters with Sam supporters, and how both will be blind to the failings of their hero. If Sam fails it'll be because he lacks the talent to play at the NFL level. Same reason Tebow failed.
He was projected as a 3rd rounder before coming out. So anybody complaining about him not going first round is going to have some Mel Kiper draft reports to explain.
If they do then they deserve what happens to them.
Jerry Jones has done dumber things in the draft.
NFL teams know that college stars do not equate to NFL star players. Tebow was a college star player. He just wasn’t NFL material.
Sam may have hurt himself by coming out. No team is going to want to be in the position of having to CUT Sam from the team if he isn’t NFL material.
He may not even get drafted. If I owned an NFL team (always keenly interested in image), I wouldn’t risk a boycott because I had to cut this albatross from the team.
Whether this gay is a great player is beside the point. Whatever team decides to take him is going to have to build him his own locker room.
4th round? I’m taking bets that he won’t be drafted until lower down if at all.
He probably really isn’t gay, just pretending to get all the attention which translates into big bucks! I like to assume people are smarter than I am, but then I assume...
