UK to Keep New Medicines from the Elderly?
National Right to Life News ^ | January 10, 2014 | Wesley J. Smith

Posted on 01/11/2014 2:37:12 PM PST by kathsua

The UK may soon tighten its health care rationing to prevent new medicines from getting to the elderly. From the Telegraph story:

“New drugs would only be licensed for the NHS [National Health Service] if they help those judged to be a benefit to wider society under proposals from the health watchdog. Pharmaceutical firms on Thursday night warned that the move could lead to new medicines being denied to the elderly.

“A senior professor also said that the plans could threaten the well-being of older people and were ‘deeply suspect’, while charities questioned the ethics of the policy. The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (Nice), which decides whether new medicines should be approved, is due to change its criteria on how funding should be allocated. Under an appraisal system,

“Nice will have to take into account ‘wider societal benefits’ alongside the cost of medication and its life-enhancing properties. Health experts have warned that vulnerable groups, such as the elderly, may lose out because they do not contribute as much to society as younger people.”

I don’t think the restrictions would be limited to the elderly. In the crassly utilitarian world of health care rationing, a whole host of “non productive” people could be targeted for denial of medicines.

This kind of thinking is coming here if the Obamacarians get their way. Indeed, the UK’s rationing system was extolled as a model for the USA by some of Obamacare’s architects, the ACA’s regulators, and among the Medical Intelligentsia.

Editor’s note. This appeared on Wesley’s fine blog.

"Then let them die and reduce the surplus population." Ebenezer Scrooge Somebody ought to explain to the ungrateful slobs pushing this policy that the some of the people those medicines could help kept the United Kingdom from becoming part of the German empire.

Who cares about new drugs when they are busily EUTHANIZING OVER 10,000 A MONTH....

130,000 elderly patients killed every year by ‘death pathway’, claims leading UK doctor

by Thaddeus Baklinski Thu Jun 21, 2012 10:02 EST Tags: euthanasia, patrick pullicino, uk

LONDON, June 21, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) - An eminent British doctor told a meeting of the Royal Society of Medicine in London that every year 130,000 elderly patients that die while under the care of the National Health Service (NHS) have been effectively euthanized by being put on the controversial Liverpool Care Pathway (LCP), a protocol for care of the terminally ill that he described as a “death pathway.”

Sit back and enjoy your Obamacare.

In the US, if a medication is more effective for whites than for minorities, it will be rejected and ignored.

Doesnt surprise me. My elderly (80) mother got routine Check ups at her primary 3 times a year. (she is also a recovered lymphoma patient) She saw her physician Last week and told her he would see her in one year. Yes, they are cutting back. Yes, she can go in when she needs to, but it is an example of the changes taking place. (and no, she does not have O care) n

In a couple of years when socialized medicine is fully upon us and there is no more market in medicine anywhere there will be no more new medicines and no more new equipment, Research will cease because there is no market to pay for it. Governments will not. Medicine in a socialized system must compete for funds with the military and with welfare of all sorts and with the ever increasing corruption that is a necessary part of socialism. And medicine will never be regarded as the most important expense. The American market is the reason that medical research occurs now anywhere in the world. Those much decried patent medicine prices are so high because only Americans pay those new high prices during the patent period. The rest of the world has laws against paying them. Without those prices there are no new medicines. Those high prices are what pay for the research.

If they are witholding the meds from non-productive members of society everyone on welfare should be denied treatment...

" there will be no more new medicines and no more new equipment,"

Even if the new drug or equipment is effectively CHEAPER than the thing that it replaces? Oh wait! It never is. The medical industry has ethical issues and is putting itself out of business - but I do realize that government regulation does not help.

The way to end this nonsense is some “filial piety” resulting in bloody vengeance.

To explain, the NHS is now actively murdering some 30,000 plus people every year, usually by starving them to death. Most likely, just a handful of doctors and nurses have become the “angels of death” in the system, carrying out most of the homicides.

So what is needed is to identify them and kill them, just like if a serial killer was identified, but was “above the law”, protected from arrest, and even encouraged to kill more and more.

No reason to kill them with prejudice. Neither torturing these monsters nor defiling their remains. Just a simple execution and leave.

Once a dozen or more are killed, the “penny will drop” among the others that there is no such thing as murder without consequences.

You missed the first digit (should be 130,000 a year)...or that is the quarterly quota.

EVEN IF the new drug or gear is cheaper to use because the expense to develop it is what the government will not pay for and the government will not consider future savings against current costs. That welfare money has to be spent NOW to get the votes necessary at the next election.

Had a friend aged 85 who went to Austria. She got a urinary tract infection and went for antibiotics. Nope. Don’t give antibiotics to people that old and she died over there with her daughter at her side.
