Currently evolution is a hand-wavy soft science. A paleontologist expounding ostensibly authoritatively on gene regulatory networks is a perfect example.
In the next 20 years it may become much more hard as genomes are sequenced and associated chromosomal organizations are determined in large numbers of wide ranging organisms.
This will provide the basis for a “new synthesis” and will probably bring about big surprises.

Let me propose a different thing
Is there natural logic?..
Can or do natural laws interact in a logical fashion with each other?
Can they interact with each other to a point that they behave in a fashion that seem intelligent and directed?..not unlike a computer program?
If so what is intelligence?
