A lot of writers have acknowledged that 2013 was President Obama’s worst year yet in office. And it’s surely true. But he’s not the only one who had a tough year — and he’s less likely than anyone else to suffer immediate consequences, given that he has now won his last election ever.

But 2013 was a long and difficult year for many of America’s most powerful and prominent institutions and people in public life. Here are ten net losers for the year, in no particular order.
