Border Bishops Call for Immigration Reform, Reuniting of Famileis

The bishops of several dioceses in the southwestern US and Mexico today released a strongly worded open letter which stresses the need for immigration reform, and a program which will reunite families divided by illegal immigration, 1200 WOAI news reports.

"We border bishops believe that what it happening to the immigrant family in the United States is an offense against God and human conscience," San Antonio Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller said in releasing the pastoral letter, called 'Family Beyond Borders.'

The letter says that not only is immigration reform the moral course of action, it says it is a 'misperception' that most immigrants arrive in the United States largely to collect welfare benefits. The pastoral letter says between one half and three quarters of all undocumented immigrations pay state and federal taxes, pay into Medicare and Social Security, and losing them would cost the U.S. economy nearly $9 billion a year in lost agricultural productivity alone.

But the letter saves its strongest language for House Republicans, who are being pressured by 'Tea Party' aligned conservative groups to reject immigration reform.

"They should no longer feel threatened with losing an election, just because they helped to make our immigration laws instruments of mercy and compassion," the Archbishop said.

Just asking why do the bishops of several dioceses declare that 'all people have the right to migrate to support themselves and their families and at what point does it end or does it ? Why don't these same bishops have anything to say about Mexico's harsh immigration laws ?

and a program which will reunite families divided by illegal immigration

I agree. They can all reunite in Mexico. Or wherever.

Nothing - absolutely nothing - preventing that from happening, except their own desire to occupy the United States against the laws of the United States.

More than 70% of Mexican immigrants vote pro-abortion.

These bishops have to be aware of that fact.

Therefore, these bishops are knowingly engaging in pro-abortion activism.

Re-unite families?

Easy. Deport illegal aliens.

That’s the law.

They voluntarily came here, voluntarily splitting up their own families. If the border-hoppers really care about their families, they can go back to Mexico to be reunited with them.

Border bishops can scratch gravel.

Let’s see. Does the call to amnesty apply to the hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants from Europe and Russia? No? The million plus illegal immigrants from all over Africa? No? The Millions from Asia? No, you say? Just amnesty for “Latinos”, eh? Hmmm, sounds racist....

I’d like to ask these bishops “Do you lock your rectory doors when you leave and, if so, why?”.

Certainly they’re not concerned about undocumented houseguests, are they?

San Antonio Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siler was involved with this letter. Here are some pictures of him protesting that there is a border fence anywhere between the US and Mexico. Does this seem like the proper role of a bishop? These people never dare speak out against abortion or gay marriage, especially to members of congress. Why do they feel so bold about this issue? Could it be...That bishop Garcia-Siler is a racist? Los mojadas sobre todo, eh bishop ass-clown?

The Cstholic. Church teaches that people have a right to emigrate or leave a cpuntry. The Church’s tesching do not confer a right to immigrate into any country illegally. Rather, the Church teaches that would be immigrants have a duty to respect the laws of their intended host country. Further, the Church teaches that countries have a right to control their borders and that wealthy countries have an obligation to accept immigrants “to the extent they are able.” We are no longer able. The Bishops should teach the whole of the Church’s official and Papal teachings

Yup. This is the biggest reason why I dumped the Catholic Church.

When I got into a debate with a priest on amnesty, I asked him why do the Catholic Churches lock the church doors when there are no services.

He replied that it was necessary to stop people from coming in and stealing and vandalizing the Church.

And I replied “But if Christ is present in the sanctuary, shouldn’t he and like-minded priests and bishops keep the doors open and welcoming for the oppressed who were just breaking in to improve their current status of poverty? Don’t they have a right to enter and take, in the name of compassion?”

He failed to see the analogy, as do these bishops.

Now I’ll have to ask Obama and the Secret Service and Reid and Boehner why they have fences around the White House and barriers around the Capitol.

I refuse to participate in an organization that knowingly leads people and societies to intrinsic evil. Deal with it.

I happen to be Catholic, Hispanic and conservative-and I’ve never heard that our immigration laws were intended to be “instruments of mercy and compassion”-I do believe that is a function of the Church, and it doesn’t include encouraging people to break the law-I wish the Pope would discipline clergy members who do that.

Archbishops and other clergy like this need to stick to doing the work of the Church-it is not like anyone is suggesting the crucifixion of illegals-just insisting they follow the same procedures every legal immigrant does...
