Flacks, Lies and Videotape

“We will keep this promise to the American people… if you like your health-care plan, you will be able to keep your health-care plan, period,”

- Barack Hussein Obama, June 23, 2009.

“What we said was you could keep it if it hasn’t changed since the law was passed,”

- Barack Hussein Obama, November 4, 2013

"When I use a word," Humpty Dumpty said, in rather a scornful tone, "it means just what I choose it to mean—neither more nor less."
"The question is," said Alice, "whether you can make words mean so many different things."
"The question is," said Humpty Dumpty, "which is to be master—that's all."

- Lewis Carroll; Through the Looking Glass, 1872

So this is the terra infirma upon which we Americans now stand: a transformed country, radically so, far different than the one in which most of us grew up.

A country where the fixed meaning of words matters far less than their practical utility and where the very nature of reality itself is subject to debate.

A country whose political and moral leaders routinely shift shapes like so many science fiction aliens, and do so not to the consternation of the general public as much as to their amusement.

A country whose news media outlets willfully massage their messages for the convenience and benefit of the Ruling Class, of which they are themselves junior members.

A country founded on the principles of individual liberty and inalienable rights, but now so consumed by notions of group guilt and collective salvation that who you are (your character) matters less than what you are (your race/class/gender), and your rights are held as mere favors to be doled out by an omniscient, benevolent State.

And who today is the head of our State?  A man of honor, of character, of intellect, and of accomplishment?

None of the above.  None, because a majority of our country sadly no longer values such things - that is: as long as we get something good in exchange for looking the other way.

So, go ahead, Mr. Obama - behave like an immature jerk and we'll overlook it. Make things up that you don't know... and we'll pretend you got it just right. Talk about how difficult your life has been... and we'll make believe we don't know about your private schools and Harvard and Chicago fixers and all of your moneyed associates.

Lie to us...

And Lord knows, you've done a whole lot of that. You've lied about matters big and matters small. You've told casual untruths about yourself and about others. You've prevaricated on details and fudged numbers. You've dissembled and disavowed knowledge of anything about any one of the myriad scandals that swirl about you like a cloud of dust raised up from the floor of a long-shuttered tomb.

But when you've lied, no matter what about or in what context: the news media have always sworn to it. The media have defended you. They have protected you. They have kept you from harm. The media have attacked your detractors and denied their accusations, even before you have advanced to the nearest microphone to do so yourself.

So, with regard to your "signature achievement", the eponymously named ObamaCare - the news media is doing so all over again, as one would expect.

It's not your fault, Mr. President, it's those awful insurance companies and Tea Partiers and Republicans. So sayeth your Guardian Flacks. So sayeth you.

And yet most people, even the so-called LOFO's (low information voters) whose general ignorance you depend upon... know that not a single Republican participated in the drafting of the ObamaCare legislation (ACA). They know that not a single Republican voted for it. They are aware that most Republicans opposed the plan and spent countless hours explaining the manner in which its stated promises were false, why the plan would fail, and at what cost.

Worse, because you seemingly cannot let twenty minutes pass without making a speech, the American people heard every one of your promises.

Even worse than that for you: Americans believed them.

Now here you are scurrying about, repeatedly denying having ever said thirty times or more what everyone heard you say or thought they heard you say, and once more you are depending on the media to "sex up" your lies and edit the videotapes, so that Reality and Truth can once more be bent to Progressive purposes.

Good luck with that, Mr. President.

Okay, not really.

I lied.

I neglected to add this note: all Progressives lie. It is a vital means of pressing an agenda whose true objectives most Americans would still not accept, even today.

All progressives do lie and the immorality of their supporters is evidenced by the acceptance of lying as a means to an end. We are a society that has walked away from our underlying Christian morals and values. We’ve embraced “diversity” which means every man and women establishes their own moral code.

With no morality there will ultimately be standard for truth and therefore the society will descend into anarchy.

For Progressives, morality is defined by whatever advances "progress", which is to say: whatever aids the march of collectivism.

Bill DiBlasio's mayoral election in NYC will be rather instructive. He is the closest thing to an open, secular socialist in American public life, next to Bernie Sanders in Vermont. And I do think he means business.

Perhaps he will directly assault accumulated wealth instead of following the normal playbook of raising marginal tax rates to prevent middle class income earners from accumulating wealth.

How would the Wall Street bankers react to an intangibles tax, asset tax, or net worth tax?

I'm guessing we're going to find out. Many Fortune 500 companies have already moved out of NYC during the past 30 years. I expect that trend will continue.

But it's the smaller businesses that will really feel the pinch - on one side from ObamaCare, and on the other from a rapacious socialist city government beholden to the municipal unions and the usual assemblage of Grievance Groups.
