Ultimately... the impetus for freedom doesn’t come out of a movie. It comes from God. The bible is the sourcebook for this, though it’s not exactly an Evelyn Wood read.
Here’s the picture in a nutshell.
God wanted to bless the world He created, but He wanted to do it in love, and so He gave the world a choice.
The world muffed the choice. First some angels became evil. Then men, who were privileged to have God’s image, followed the lies of the evil angels. This put the men in enslavement to the evil angels.
Then God made a sacrifice of Himself good for all time and space on this now-mortal coil. And called and ministered to people in various ways to participate in the good brought by that sacrifice. This would permit them to become servants of God in love, and thus become free.
Note that virtue and goodness go along with freedom. You can’t have an evil freedom, that is a contradiction in terms.
I could say more about the gospel and its role here, but I have said a lot about it on my Freep page and would be repeating myself.
Great movie!
