Thinking about moving SOuth - anyone who can provide suggestions?

Posted on 10/15/2013 9:47:23 PM PDT by freedom462

So I am thinking of simply leaving the job I work at now and heading to a Southern state, Texas, North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Northern Florida, Tennessee, etc since I figure that, since I am one of those who does not have a reliable source of family aid of any kind, that this could be my only option.

I am considering finding a church that has a sort of communal living situation, a farm, ranch, factory or other such source that could use additional workers and join one of them. I am thinking of it in light of a situation where there is such severe disaster than there are no jobs in the schools, restaurants - presuming they'd be out of business since noone could eat out anymore, malls, universities, hospitals, not to mention no engineering jobs of any kind either, unless they required another degree (which in theory I would not get since all the schools would no longer have any money).

So I am thinking of places such as what I listed above as places to start a new life in preparation for the possibility that all other work options are simply gone because the crisis got so severe and as a way to ensure I can have a community I can survive with, since my only other option would be to try and survive as a homeless person at this point.

Does anyone on FR have a sort of church based or other type of communal living situation, a farm, ranch or non federal park that is looking for new members and/or can suggest ways I can find that type of place to work so that I have survival chance? I figure that most likely, noone would be able to help that much but knowing what I do about FR, I figured might as well ask just for the heck of it if nothing else since my options otherwise are highly limited.

Texas sucks. Its not only the place its the people and culture that are disingenuous and inauthentic masked as southern hospitality. You will not get past level 2 of deep relationships.

I have heard of indeed and it turns up a lot of jobs in the city where I live - the problem is that they are by and large jobs in schools, stores, restaurants, and engineering and management jobs. I was thinking of a scenario, which seems more likely than eve a few months ago, where the financial markets have gotten so bad that these jobs are simply gone. Hence asking about farms, ranches, private parks, church based communal living situations and so on. Where it is those types of jobs and that’s it.

If you’re a Conservative, South Carolina is a great place to live.

Sweetheart, if you have the choice to move from a blue state to a red state, find one with the climate and lifestyle you can live with if SHTF never comes.

Join a church, make friends, keep God with you. When the time comes, if ever, you will find what you need.

Do not fear.

I wouldn’t base huge personal decisions on hypothetical possibilities that have a low probability of occurrence. I did that to some extent and it was a mistake. But good luck with whatever you do.

First, what kind of work might you be seeking? And, why a communal situation with a church or similar group on a farm or ranch?

These are some rather curious items and I would like to offer some suggestions of places you might consider, but I need to better understand what you are seeking. Are you principally seeking a work environment, recreational environment or just something that isn’t in the north? Also, do you have a climate in mind that you would find more desirable than others? Depending on location and what your expectations are, southern weather extremes can be pretty harsh.

So, if you can offer a little more detail, I would be happy to offer some suggestions. Freepmail me if you want some privacy.

I believe you live in one of the crummier areas of California, right?

Kind of stuck there for life?

I picked those examples because I was looking at a scenario where that would be the only type of work available since all other kinds of jobs, like those in schools, restaurants, universities, engineering firms, malls, and many, if not most, stories and factories would be simply unavailable, which would eliminate the vast majority of jobs found on a site like indeed.com.

And yes, it is also in part because I would be looking to get away from the North and find a place that is gonna have some real chance at keeping actual American liberties alive and so on. Basically, getting as far away from DC, NY, Mass, Newark, Detroit and So Cal as possible.

Does that help?

Why do you think the markets will crash?

is it because of the media hype and lies about the “default”

there can't be a default . the media is lying. if they don't raise the debt ceiling the constitution demands the debt be serviced first and the gov takes in 10 x what is needed to service the debt, pay the interest on it.

Perhaps you should consider moving to the Asia-Pacific region instead of going to the South. You can start all over here, hopefully you have a college degree. Even if it’s a B.A. in Political Science like mine, you can still grab some intruiging job opportunities in my neck of the woods.

I guess I have this fear that even once I end up joining a Church, that God won’t be with me and I’ll be dead in a couple weeks one way or the other anyway. I am just talking about looking for a real chance of survival here.
