Facing Primary, Lindsey Graham Now Supports Defunding ObamaCare

On Friday, the House voted for a resolution to keep government open but also defund ObamaCare. Within minutes, Nancy Mace, who is opposing Sen. Lindsey Graham in the GOP primary, issue a press release attacking Graham for his past criticism of the defunding strategy. In just two hours, Graham tweeted that he supported the House's efforts to defund the unpopular health care law. Such is the power of primaries.

As recently as July, Graham said that defunding ObamaCare was "a bridge too far for him." Primary opponents do tend to focus a politician's mind.

Graham faces at least three opponents in next year's primary contest. Normally, multiple challengers give an edge to incumbents, as opposition is split among several challengers. South Carolina, however, uses a run-off system. If no candidate gets more than 50% of the vote, the top two voter-getters face off in a run-off. Multiple challengers increase the odds that Graham falls below 50% and has to face a run-off.

Graham is no doubt a nice man and would make a good GOP Senator from a state like Maine. His representing South Carolina, however, is a wasted opportunity for conservatives. An East Coast John McCain does a disservice to the Palmetto State.

Graham's tweet in support of the House action indicates he is aware of the challenge before him. Few incumbents are so disliked by the grass-roots, both in South Carolina and across the country. A run-off election, with a single conservative challenger, would ignite national interest and possibly create a wave that washes over Graham.

His tweet in support of defunding ObamaCare was a good start. He now has to follow that up over the coming weeks.

But, haven't you heard? The founding fathers were infallible Gods who came up with a 100% perfect government, and thus our Republic is destroyed if we amend the constitution and change ANY procedure they came up with for how to operate the government in 1789. The 17th amendment is an obvious example of this demonic effort to change what the founders designed. Of course, this argument naturally does not apply to the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, etc. amendments (ESPECIALLY not 2nd and 10th!!) We're allowed to amend the Constitution in those cases, of course.

My favorite anti-17th amendment insane rant was from a freeper who argued the that 100% RAT controlled legislatures during the old "south solid" era wouldn't have sent socialist new deal Democrats to the U.S. Senate, if only we had left the decision up to socialist new deal Democrats running the legislature. All those hardcore lifelong RAT Speakers would have chosen conservative Republicans, I guess.

An excellent idea. Levin followers, like Ron Paul's, are smart enough to realize that their guy was ordained by God himself to watch over our Constitution and determine how to interpret it correctly. We need to thank God for existence because nobody else on the planet gets it and we need him to tell us what it says. In fact, I think the Paulbot argument about why he is so all-wise and all-knowing applies to Levin too. Obviously, Levin IS a founding father himself, in the flesh, just one who time traveled to the 21st century. What's more, Levin is so smart and brilliant he wrote the entire U.S. Constitution by himself, and just dictated it to the founding fathers to write down for future posterity. Ron Paul supporters thankfully realized this fact, but failed to realize it was Levin and not Ron who we owe our undying gratitude to.
