Pauken Slashes Abbott in TexMo Interview (Texas)
D Frontburner ^ | 09/13/2013 | Wick Allison

Posted on 09/15/2013 6:47:48 PM PDT by TexGrill

The great Brian Sweany of Texas Monthly (still, after all these years, it hurts to say that) offers GOP gubernatorial candidate and Dallas native Tom Pauken the chance to lay out his case, which opportunity Pauken seizes with both hands. On the American Airlines merger, crony capitalism, education — this would make a helluva debate. My impression: Abbott is weaker than he looks, which is why he scurry in every which direction to avoid sharing a stage or a camera. That’s understandable now, but as the primary draws closer Abbott is going to find himself boxed in. The idea of winning by getting everyone to think that you’re winning, well, maybe David Dewhurst could tell him how that turns out.

Consider the source:

"FrontBurner® launched in March 2003, the first blog in Dallas run by a media organization. This is where the editors of D Magazine come to waste a tremendous amount of time."

Bunch of big city liberal media hacks trying to steer Republican politics as usual.

Haven’t you heard, the only politician in Texas now is Wendy Davis.

He's got a point, though. Abbot is going to have to debate, or lose credibility.

OMG You’re right Wick Allison, publisher of D Frontburner, was publisher of the National Review during the Reagan years. He was appointed CEO of the American Conservative magazine in 2011. This guy’s a flaming Marxist goon. Let’s get the rope:

That’s a double sarc., just in case you didn’t get the hint.

D Magazine is a flaming liberal rag. I don’t care who the ‘publisher’ of that website is.

Spineless Abbott

See? That's exactly the sort of talk that started our last firefight over Pauken vs Abbott. You just can't stop with the ad hominems.

If you want to have an honest political discussion between fellow conservatives about the merits of these two contenders, you need to drop the below-the-belt potshots first.

Maybe he will, and maybe he won't. He may be waiting til a certain pre-planned stage of the race to openly debate his opponents. May be a strategy at work here.

Dunno, but I'm not reading anything into his refusal to debate either of those two at this point.

I won't be voting for him unless I'm clear on what his positions are. I do like what he's done as AG.

Besides, governor isn't the important office anyway. Lt. Governor is.

I'll be hosting a thread to the Boot Dewhurst pinglist this week to discuss candidates for Lt. Gov.

D Magazine and Texas monthly are both leftist

The only place I ever hear about D Magazine is during PBS pledge drives

I haven't seen anyone step foot into the race that I like better than Abbott, but yes, I need him fully lay out his positions on a host of issues before I give him my vote.

D Magazine and Texas monthly are both leftist

According to the OP, we're supposed to ignore that well known fact because the guy who founded the website at the link has some track with conservative publications.

Uh....no.
