The Korean Food Foundation (KFF), promoter of "hansik," is shedding light on food from North Korea, currently more infamous than famous because of its nuclear brinkmanship.

It is publishing a 120-page book “The Hidden Taste of North Korean Food” that contains recipe of 50 meals based on document research and interviews with North Korean defectors here, the foundation said, Thursday.

The primary goal of the project is to preserve authentic recipes and cooking methods for North Korean dishes. At the same time, the book will help raise international awareness of the secretive nation’s signature meals, it said.

“The English-language version of the recipe book will be published next year,” said Song Mi-wha, a KFF official. “We will publish another book introducing 50 other North Korean meals next year, which will also be translated into English.”

Song said there are many North Korean meals that are likely to become popular overseas.

What a rip-off. I just got the book from Amazon and all the pages in the cookbook are empty. I wanted to find a recipe for "tree bark soup with dog tail"

I watched a documentary in which a NK defector told of seeing a group of children fighting over a single kernal of corn they found in a cow pie. Bon apetit!

I heard a defector from a prison camp say he saw an 8 year old girl (dissidents entire families are sent to the camps for major infractions like reading a pamphlet dropped by a balloon) SHOT because she picked 3 grains of rice off the floor.

Wouldn't one bean be more like half a nom?

South Korean girlies are bigger and probably stronger than North Korean men right now.

Actually there was an incident where some defectors went back to the North because all the SK women were too big for them.

"I had to pull up my own grass, no rats!"

You were lucky. We lived for three months in a paper bag in a septic tank. We used to have to get up at six in the morning, clean the paper bag, eat a crust of stale bread, go to work down t' mill, fourteen hours a day, week-in week-out, for sixpence a week, and when we got home our Dad would thrash us to sleep wi' his belt...

I heard Chicoms are bombing NK with sacks of rice and canned food but authorities are shooting people who tries to collect these gifts. Chicoms are officially a capitalist pigs by NK books right now.

Well it is cheaper than Nutri-System for weight loss.

It's also the perfect cure for "eating disorders!"
