Marijuana is now legal in Washington, and the Seattle police have been remarkably mellow about the whole thing.

In fact, the city's Police Department plans to be at Hempfest, what has become the largest pot rally in the world. And they're taking bags of Doritos in case anyone, you know, gets a little hungry.

(Excerpt) Read more at money.msn.com ...

TOPICS: Agriculture; Education; Gardening; Health/Medicine
KEYWORDS: bluezones; cannabis; ganja; hemp; leo; potheads; seattle; wod
And why shouldn't the police be mellow?

They are no longer AT WAR with the people!

Look for a substantial increase in citizen support in rooting out the cartels, and death meth dealers.

Or, maybe the toothless meth users will start protesting for legalization after the weed users success.

So is dog crap, if you are really hungry. Would be fitting for Seattle, the leftist shithole of the NW.

Did police in Seattle reach out to homosexuals when same sex sodomy was legalized? Have they done outreach to let the public know “how low they can go” when it comes to “Romeo & Juliet/Romeo” exceptions to the age of consent laws? Have the police explained how far your gun rights go?

When did it become police responsibility to explain to the public what they CAN do instead of what they may not do? If the state and feds can still prosecute in some circumstances, that is for the public to publicize.

weed is not exactly legal yet to my understanding...the only weed that will be legal is stuff produced by licensed growers and sellers....which means there will still be lots of violence in the trade....

instead of stealing oxys they'll be stealing weed.....

oh what a country....

not going to happen....this will make our society even more lazy, decadent, irresponsible, and shallow....

but I'm looking forward to the cops doing routine testing for weed in traffic accidents...its still illegal to drive while on drugs not matter what....

I work for a county public works department. We get periodic visits from the Sheriffs deputy that does community outreach for safety meetings. A couple years ago during the big meth cooking craze in Oregon, he did a presentation on what to look for and avoid in a meth cook dump site.

A question was asked about the medical marijuana law in Oregon and the deputy replied that medical MJ and MJ period was not a big cause of serious (violent) crimes. His departments focus was on Meth, Coke, and Heroin as the biggest cause of violent crime and gang violence. It was a refreshingly candid statement by the deputy.

That has been my whole hang-up with legalization (driving). The only test I am aware of will only tell if someone has used it within 2 weeks, and I don’t think it tells a level (might be wrong about that). If there is a test that will determine level of current intoxication of THC I could be persuaded to support FULL LEGALIZATION.

However, I am 100% against decriminalization under any conditions, which is about what this amounts to. It still leaves the drug dealer selling an “entry level” drug, and not checking for age/ID. Thus it is still an entry level drug and not regulated or controlled. Plus it still leaves distribution in the hands of gangs. The worst of all worlds.

UH, smoking is ILLEGAL in public parks in Seattle.

Cops must be getting wrist cramps from all the tickets being issued.

Oh, marijuana smoke? That's safe. Toddlers are cured by smoke from MJ.

Smoke from every other source than MJ is a goddamn hazard and must be quashed.

I doubt it. Weed is to meth is like coffee is to 120 proof rum

As a former prosecutor, I like this a lot. Marijuana should be legal. The States should decide of course, but for a lot of reasons it should be legal.

Yes, the police will actually be doing something useful, and the city’s dogs *might* be safe, at least temporarily.
