Charles Krauthammer, Juan Williams battle over voter ID laws
Daily Caller ^ | August 13, 2013 | Jeff Poor

On Tuesday’s broadcast of Fox News Channel’s “Special Report,” network contributors Juan Williams and Charles Krauthammer debated the merits of North Carolina’s new voter identification legislation signed into law this week by North Carolina Republican Gov. Pat McCrory.

Williams said there are circumstances in which photo identification is necessary, but since voting is a right, he argued that identification shouldn’t be a requirement.

“When I look at the polls, most Americans support voter ID,” Williams said. “Most Americans are pretty clear in their thinking that if you have to, as Gov. McCrory said, show some ID to get in the airport or to get anything — yeah, I think you should be required to. Now, the difference in my mind is of course that voting is a constitutional right and that you shouldn’t have any impediment to it pursue your constitutional rights. But again, this is something beyond that you heard from that civil right advocate,

At least on this issue, Juan Williams is way out of his league. You need a more sound intellectual argument than just talking points.

How does Juan feel about the RKBA? That’s a constitutional right ...

Once again, I have a very hard time believing that Juan is dumb enough to actually believe the stuff coming out of his mouth.

Why would someone object to proving who they are? I’d like to hear Juan’s argument.

Hey Juan, if I went to a polling location in your town and claimed that I was you, would that be enough to let me vote? If not, why not?

How about we agree to make the requirements to vote the same as the requirements to purchase an AR-15? I’d be happy with showing an ID for both, or not.

If people don’t believe a vote can kill, ask someone who voted for Hitler, Stalin, etc.

That headline cracks me up. “battle”!??? That’s like saying Williams has something to “battle” Krauthammer with.

Since you need an ID for so many other things, who are these people who apparently have none?
Can you be 18 and legit in this country without ever having owned some kind of identification?

About rights, I can only vote once. I'm fine with that.
But if there are categories of people who can vote more than once, vote in the wrong precinct, vote although they are foreign nationals, stuff the ballot boxes, "misplace" my vote or rig the counting, that's a violation of MY rights.

To stop the “it’s a right” argument, simply ask if every person in the world should be allowed to vote in US Election or is it limited to only citizens of the US. Any sane person will tell you that voting is limited to US Citizens.

Then ask them without ID, how is the government to KNOW who is a US citizen.

Had O’Reilly on in the background. Asked Alan Colmes, who was against voter ID - natch - “if you can’t get to a place to get your voter id, how are you going to get to the polls to vote?”

Watching Juan Williams spouting the dem talking points used to be like nails on a chalkboard for me. Now, it is like nails being hammered into my head.

I have made it a policy to turn off FOX every time they have that moronic Alan Colmes on. After yesterday, I decided to do the same whenever I see Juan Williams.

I love it when I get carded for an alcohol purchase (60+), and I happily show my ID when I vote. Just because it’s a Constitutional right to vote, it cancels out my vote when an illegal votes or when a democrap votes twice. How do you know without a valid ID?

I think there is a string in Juan’s back that someone pulls when it’s time to spew his crap. It NEVER changes.

It is very simple to counter the ONLY retort the lying left has in this debate when they fall back on, voting is a right therefore no ID should be required.

Well, OK, lets turn that right back on them. We should NOT need any ID to have guns as that is a right which shall not be infringed.

Case closed.

but since voting is a right, he argued that identification shouldn’t be a requirement

How does this even make sense?
Yes it is a right. For an American citizen, Of that State, of that County, etc. I live in PA. I can not vote on New York for Governor. I am an American citizen. I can vote for President. One of my pastors was until this year a Citizen of England. He could not vote. You are supposed to be alive to vote, but dead people vote every year. So the need to prove that you are eligible to vote seems paramount to me to protect the integrity of our vote.........

Since gun ownership and voting are both rights, but, children, felons and illegal aliens aren’t supposed to possess either, my proposal is to make the ID requirements identical for both situations. Whatever you need to do to buy a gun, you should have to do to vote, and whatever is sufficient to get you into a voting booth should be sufficient to buy a gun. Whether that’s no picture ID or a full criminal background check ... that’s what it should be for both situations.

Here in FL, along with lots of other states, we've had the Photo ID requirement for many years. Quite simple, actually. 1. Prove who you are. 2. Vote.

Every time it appears Juan Williams may be coming out of his liberal stupor a la Kirsten Powers, he lapses back into robotic idiocy. Krauthammer has to be careful not to appear too cruel when he is slicing & dicing ol’ JW.

Now...FWIW when I vote in my local ward,

1. I have to show both photo ID and my voter registration card.

2. My name must appear on the voter registration roll & I am required to affix my signature next to it.

3. I am then escorted to the voting machine. Only then am I on my own.

BTW there are more ways from here to Christmas to not only obtain photo ID but to be transported to where the ID is issued. What the liberals are demanding of course is their right to steal elections through ballot fraud. Bottom line.

Buying, owning and carrying firearms and other weapons is a right as well, Juan. So your logic indicates that you are in favor of invalidating all gun "control" laws. Good for you! < /sarc >
