Could a Texas City’s Proposed Ordinance Ban Traditional Marriage Supporters From Local Gov’t Posts?
Yahoo News ^ | 25 Jul 2013 | Billy Hallowell

Proposed changes to a city ordinance in San Antonio, Texas, are capturing attention, mainly because of the addition of some controversial and vague language that critics believe will lead to a crackdown on free speech.

Gay rights activists and select officials in the city are looking to revamp the city's anti-discrimination ordinance to include "sexual orientation" and "sexual identity." So, what does this mean, exactly?

The new text, if adopted, could essentially ban citizens who have shown a bias in these areas from serving on commissions and in local government posts. Meaning: If you oppose homosexuality and have shown that opposition in "word or deed" that you could be precluded from holding these positions.

The goal with these inclusions is to protect the individuals who fall under these categories from discrimination. Already, San Antonio's policy protects people on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex and age and "handicap" (this latter group is also being changed to "disability" in a draft version of the new ordinance). One News Now calls the new sexual orientation and gender identity language "unprecedented." And according to a report in Biz Pac Review, "The city is looking to update its anti-discrimination policies by adding sexual orientation and gender identity as protected categories, and plans to punish those who speak out against homosexuality."

The questions that arise here are as follows: Are those who have vocally opposed gay marriage or homosexuality then not eligible to be appointed to government committees? Would a pastor, for instance, be banned for having Bible-based, theological views on these issues? What, exactly, does "bias" mean? What about a Catholic who has voiced support for the church's teachings? And these are only some of the many questions.................Hard to imagine this in Texas

Thank Mayor Julian Castro and some of his buddies on the Council for this pile of crap.

The Castros are a poison, a cancer on the city of San Antonio. They need to be run out of office at the earliest opportunity and stonewalled at every turn until then.

With all the Catholics there are in SA, no one will want to serve in these positions for fear of getting a major ass kicking-since stupid can’t be fixed, may as well just let it be and watch the fun-and the lawsuits...

Our country is disintegrating so rapidly it’s making my head swim.

Just when I thought I’d heard it all....something even more outrageous.

All we can do is sit by and watch it happen.

The bigger cities in Texas are where all the carpetbaggers and illegals are moving to hence they are turning more and more liberal at the city government level.

This has only just begun. They did get involved when the Mayor wanted to extend city bennies to the partners of homosexuals.

If this happens then I may as well start a range war, because I won’t be a second class citizen to any man.

This city is working with or partnering (Matching funds) with federal program that is propelling this. And it could also be a part of Agenda 21 (funding).

This will be coming to a town or city in your area soon.

It is not simply an attack on free speech, it is against someone who is a Christian and yet no other religion is not mentioned.

If a person is on record as saying homosexuality is a sin you can’t run for office and/ or you can be removed from office.

This is elevating homosexuals above heterosexuals so that they have special rights.

Texas has big liberal cities like everywhere in this country.

In particular San Antonio, like Austin, doesn't embrace real Texas values. San Antonio is overwhelmingly messkin and they're leftists, not Conservative. San Antonio, Austin and the Rio Grande Vally are stains on the Great State of Texas.

By the way, I always enjoy tweaking the messkins down there by pronouncing their county as Bex-are instead of the Spanish way. It makes me chuckle when they try to correct me. As far as I'm concerned, this is America, we speak English! And I make a point to let them know that I wont adopt their ways.

I need to find some conservatives in Austin who’d like to go out and mock leftists on a regular occasion.

Yeah, that’s right. Attacking Mexican Catholics while ignoring the liberal northerners.

But I guess that would force you to admit you are wrong.
